REMarking a registry key

#1 Post by cadillacmike68 » Mon Dec 31, 2012 2:35 pm

Is there a way to Remark a registry key, e.g. leave it there with a REM prefix or something so that later it can be unremarked and made active?

I want to stop the load of the fingerprint reader driver in my WS T61s Type 6463 until i can get a palmrest with a FP reader. Then i want to re-activate the driver.

You may ask, why is it even showing up? Well, it's because i cloned my wife's 8897 to our 6463s and the 8897 has the FP reader, so it carried over. And it'll work eventually with the 6463 when i get an FP reader, because when i ported a clone over to the 8898-AGM, that machine started up fine and the FP reader works for both our hands.

Happy New Years everyone! I'm in a 'dry' country so no celebrations for me :x

Just rename it by adding e.g. -org to it.
For example:
FingerPrintReader (original name)
FingerPrintReader-org (temporary name)
The key is still there, but being unknown, will not function until you change it back.

The registry won't croak with an error? Ok, I'll try that. Now I have to find it in the registry.

Isn't there a fingerprint service you can turn off? I think that's what I have done, but it's been too long for me to remember.

I'll look for that too. My Wife had her T61 for 4+ years, I have my first one as of this past Oct, so I'm still figuring it out.
