Geez, you guys make me feel a tad old. I just ordered a W520 as an upgrade from my trusty R51. (Which will remain in service as a back-up, btw.) However, I remember buying my Tandy RL1000 running a fire-breathing Intel 8086 and sporting a whopping 20 MB hdd.

Best Regards,

Bert

I would definately turn off the virus scanners resident parts, and just scan any file downloaded with it or at http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Ditch the defender in favor of Spybot Search & Destroy, only use it's on demand portion... with noscript/adaware you can skip the resident part of spybot.

I would say you are pretty secure, prolly more so then a lot of machines I come across on a daily basis :P I cringe nowadays when I sit down at someones machine and see IE is their main browser... or even those who choose Firefox don't have Noscript & AdBlock :P
