Ideal Operating Systems

#1 Post by fl_flipper88 » Tue Dec 27, 2022 10:39 pm

I am a veteran Windows and Linux/Unix user for the past 23 some odd years and have recently squired an old X1 Carbon from my sister that used to belong to here now defunct former employee on which I don't at all want or have the interest, time or energy to deal with beeing in the 99% or the Windows world. So I'd like to take a quick pull of the users of this forum on which of the BSDs or Linux Distributions I should put on my X1 Carbon.

Once I tried MX linux, I never looked back. The thing is - I am a Linux newbie. (last few years). I do not have time to babysit my OS or spend hours finding which kernel fixes that and f***s that.
I will burn in hell for what I am going to say but:
- I am happy with my Framework laptop
- I am using it with Windows 11 and I am happy with it
- I am going to install either Fedora or again MX linux in dual boot.

Fedora Linux... it has the best support of the linux distribution, and the bleeding edge... well, you can try it

It's simple, secure, and fast, but very stable, just simple drop dd iso to usb, and install, and all drivers are there...
X220 with Win 10 21H2 Fedora 38 XFCE 4.18 (official spins)
i7-2640m, disabled Hyper Thread, Temp Drop on average 10*C, all core activated, need KVM for Windows
12gb RAM (enough for now, DDR3L)
480 Kingston Fake SSD
64gb Samsung SD Card
Recently rolled back to Windows 7 from Win 10 21H2. Sad
