tvt_gina.dll
Has anybody come across the tvt_gina.dll file before? Ever since downloading the latest driver for my intel PRO Wireless LAN 2100 3B mina PCI adapter and I now have this tvt_gina.dll file installed in the WINDOWS\system32 directory. It alters the start up procedure by disabling the welcome screen and fast user switching. To get my normal start up back I apparently have to 'unistall the program' but it's not sure, to me anyway, which program i.e. the recently updated driver or the tvt_gina.dll.
How can I get rid of this tvt_gina.dll file?

Do you have Rescue and Recovery installed? I think the tvt_gina.dll comes with R&R, but I am not 100% sure. Another guess could be IBM Client Security. Both alter the Winlogon and tvt_gina.dll is probably the backup of the original version.

there is no need to do anything. Just keep the tvt_gina.dll where it is, it does no harm. You must have installed some software that altered your Winlogon (which is common for many backup and encryption software). Look what type of Security or Backup Software you have installed, probably something like IBM Client Security or Utimaco Safeguard Easy (both changes the Winlogon) or something similiar.

Thanks again. Yes I remember I also downloaded some security software at the same time I downloaded the driver update but can't remember what it was, the download page mentioned that it would be crucial for me to download it though.
Excuse my ignorance but how do I find out what Security software I have installed? and what do I do with it once I find it to stop the problem?

look at the timestamp of the file tvt_gina.dll. Then search your harddisk for all files with the same date, perhaps this gives you a hint. Another way could be searching the registry for gina.dll or tvt_gina.dll.

It seems that the problem was caused by the installation of the latest Access Connections. When you install this you have the option of having a password login for Access Connections when you start the computer; there's a check box in the loading procedure which you tick if you want this to activate.
I loaded Access Connections again, this time un-ticking this check box. I now no longer have the problem with the tvt_gina.dll. It also loads much faster.

Reinstalling Rescue and Recovery fixed it for me
I tired to uninstall then install Access IBM and Access Connections. Neither one fixed the problem for me.
So I tried to uninstall R&R and it gave me the opportunity to re-install. At the point I deselected the security options. And that did the trick.
I am really surprised that all this security stuff is autmatically installed without explicity asking. It is so contrary to the great job that IBM has done with the rest of the system. But, installing something this major without confirming it is not good design.

In the first link below, you can download ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery. The way I did it was manually download the file, then double-click on the file in the C:\DownloadDirector\ directory. See below.

During the installation, you may want to follow the procedure I used in the following thread.Installing the package
======================
1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and folders.
2. Type setup_tvtrnr3_1025en.exe in the search field, then click Find Now.
This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3. Double-click the setup_tvtrnr3_1025en.exe icon. The necessary files will
be extracted to the C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\IBMRNR directory and the
installation should start automatically.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Try this. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration service. Try Starting it and setting it to Automatic. This has fixed slow boot ups in the past for me.dustrman03 wrote:i installed it but i still have a slow login..when i put in the password and press enter, for some reason an ibm access connections dialog box comes up..and it loads and takes forever..
You can also check in Access Connections for the following. Click on the Manage Location Profiles..., highlight your normal wireless connection and choose Edit, click on the Wireless tab and verify that you have chosen 'No' for Use this profile to connect during Windows logon? You can change by choosing Edit wireless LAN settings. You can also try leaving your wireless radio in the off state before shutdown, by pressing the Fn + F5 key combination.

tvt_gina.dll is a 'master' gina that several TVT products use, including Access Connections, Rescue and Recovery and Client Security.
If tvt_gina.dll is active, it most likely means you have some other sort of plugin GINA being used - like the Access Connections gina.
If you want to remove it, each application's GINA plugin must be removed. There usually is a means to disable that plugin via that software. Once all plugins are removed, tvt_gina.dll should be removed automatically.

Goto HKLM\Software\IBM\TVT\Gina and delete the value called "Plugins". This will remove all plugin GINAs and you will be able to logon normally with the exception of Fast User Switching. If this is still a problem, boot into safe mode and remove the value "GinaDLL" from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

tvt_gina.dll and windows xp welcome screen
I, too, have this problem (windows xp welcome screen disabled by tvt_gina.dll). I have read through this thread and tried every suggested solution, e.g., uninstalling programs and modifications to registry.
Also, I called Lenovo. The guy I spoke with knew about this complaint but was understandably reluctant to recommend specific changes to the registry and could not or would not pinpoint specific programs to uninstall. He suggested going into msconfig/startup and disabling all to determine if a startup item was, in fact, responsible for tvt_gina.dll then determining which startup process was the culprit by a process of elimination. The problem here is that I disabled all and registry entry still gets created following bootup. So, I still get the same message when I go into Control Panel / User Accounts / Change the Way Users Log on or Off ("a recently installed program has disabled the Welcome screen . . . ).
The only thing that I am fairly certain about is that some bootup/startup process creates/recreates tvt_gina.dll. When I booted up in Diagnostic Mode, the IBM MouseKeys utility icon continues to appear in System Tray.
Bottom line: I can't get rid of tvt_gina in the registry and, consequently, I can't make the necessary change in Control Panel / User Accounts.
Would appreciate any tips or advice.

Registry Change
The Microsoft GINA can be replaced by adding a REG_SZ GinaDLL registry value in the key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon
Delete the GinaDLL value and Windows will revert to using the default MSGINA.DLL.
Edited to add:
Only delete the GinalDLL value if it is currently set to: tvt_gina.dll.
