Device Man shows dead hardware: ACPI/IBM0068. What is it?

I have reformatted and installed Vista on my T60. My device manager shows the above hardware as Not Working.

What is it? Do I need it? And if so, then which driver should I look for on hte Lenovo site?

It's the Thinkpad Power Management Device.

Running Windows Update should provide the correct drive.

Hi. I've got Auto Updates to Check for new updates several times, and it hasn't changed.

Is it worth installing the Power Management software from the Lenovo site?

I'm taking a minimalist approach and only installing what I need. If the Lenovo Power Management is better than the windows one then I will install it. Anyone have an opinion if it's worth installing?

Phil: I'm taking the same view you are - if it's not required, don't install it.

I did load the Thinkpad ACPI driver for Vista, as the one that MS rolled out didn't work - in fact it stopped working totally on my system. Installing the Lenovo driver fixed that.

I installed the TPM driver as Vista didn't have that, although currently nothing uses it.

The only thing my system has not working now is the fingerprint reader... and there is no release download for that yet. The way this last week has been going, with 2 or 3 updates a day to the Lenovo site, I'd say they're preparing for the 30th and we'll see a release driver pretty soon.

Vista appears to work well with most things being native. I see no need to install things like Access Connections and the like when the built-in stuff in Vista is so good.

As for installing 'Message Centers' and the likes - they're a complete waste of disk space.

Like you though, I would be interested to hear if the Lenovo 'Power Manager' is more effective than the built-in Vista power management. I'd be surprised if it makes much difference, although there are some things like changing the screen brightness that Vista doesn't change automatically - although that's easy to change from the keyboard manually.

Has anyone tried the Lenovo Power Manager? How well does it integrate? Does it make your batteries last any longer?

so far all has worked well from lenovo. i needed the bluetooth drivers to get a wireless headset to work and while i don't like to add junk nothing in vista has been taking the system speed down at all as in XP. i have a 200793u core duo and 2gb ram 100gb 7200 rpm drive and it runs well. i put in the system control which added the keyboard light and hard drive protection buttons to the windows control center. i want access connections because i liked the way it automatically turned off one the wireless when i am plugged into the internet. also i am testing for future nbs we get with all the software pre installed.

TPM stands for Trusted Platform Module, which is the Security Chip. This is used for the Fingerprint Reader, Client Security Software, and Rescue and Recovery. See following for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Platform_Module

ACPI stands for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface, and it is what controls the power management features of the computer. See following for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acpi

Does anyone know where to find the TPM driver? I looked under Security on the Lenovo website, but it is not there.

The TPM driver for XP is on the following page. I do not know if there is a Vista version out for the T60. You can try Windows update and see if it finds one.

Atmel TPM (Trusted Platform Module) device driver for Windows 2000, XP - ThinkPad R60, R60e, T42, T42p, T60, T60p, X41, X41 Tablet, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet , Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t

I see the following Vista Atmel TPM driver for a T42. Perhaps it will work on a T60, since the XP driver works for both. No guarantee of your results with the driver below.
