Key problem UIOP
Key problem UIOP
My UIOP keys dont work? I opened the computer this afternoon to replace the RAM and these keys don't work anymore. What I have tried to get the keys working include:
1. changed back to old ram = no good
2. cleaned the keys with air compressor, floor vac etc = no good
3. tried a HDD with windows installed, instead of Kubuntu = keys dont work on windows either
5. plugged an external keyboard to see if the keys work = UIOP work on external keyboard
6. turned off numlock = no good
Can someone please help? I need my laptop for studies...

Yes, many of times-you do mean pulling out the connector then putting it back in its socket yes? I tried this! what could be causing this? btw I have mobo problems where I need to place an object on the gpu-so that the keyboard, when tightened, will apply pressure to the motherboard so that I can get post screen and operate the thing.andyP wrote:Have you tried re-seating the keyboard?
honestly though, im poor and can't afford a new laptop. Im currently at university studying mining/civil engineering and it's taken all of my dosh people. therefore, this laptop is pretty much a necessity.

i did the exact same thing to my t40. worked fine, opened and replace a card and once it was back together the uiop keys were dead. never did find a solution, i bought a new keyboard for $30 and that did the trick. i think i put too long of a screw in one of the holes and it shorted something out on the keyboard.
