X61 IPS/Flexview panel question

#1 Post by jkahng » Tue Aug 28, 2007 4:11 am

I've been looking over the tabook and thinkwiki and have some questions.

1. Do some of the X61 series(non-tablet) have IPS/Flexview panels?

2. Do ALL X61s have ultralight displays or can it be configured with the normal one

my research tells me it's no for both questions. I have a bet going with a retailer who swears that some non-tablet x61 have IPS displays and I disagree with him.

the tabook shows 4 different manufactures for non-tablet x61 panels but without any info on type of panel...

(TMD) 13N7092
(Hydis) 13N7094
(Samsung) 13N7096
(CMO) 42T0343

thanks for your help.

TMD = ultralight.

But the rest is just plain old technology.

So no Flexview. (The XGA X41T had such a pannel... but thats a tablet)

ok. the hmm is for both x61, and x61s this makes sense.
3 regular panels for x61 and the ultralight(tmd) for x61s.

do you know if the x61s can be had with a regular panel instead of the ultralight?

Yes, Ultralight is not an option on all X61s.

it looks like the x61s can be had with the normal lcd instead of the ultralight...

now if someone could shed light on the flexview issue... that would be great...

"FlexView" is (first IBM's and now) Lenovo's marketing term for IPS display panels, which provide increased viewing angles and improved colour reproduction. These panels are not available on any current ThinkPads -- the last model to offer them was the T60p.

The X60/X61 tablet, however, is also offered with an AFFS display panel, made by Boe Hydis, with SXGA (1400x1050) resolution, which has similar benefits to the IPS panels. This panel is not available for the X61 or X61s.

so the panels used in the x60/x61 tablets are AFFS not flexview.
and they are not used in the non tablet versions...

thanks for the clarification.

Right. AFFS are branded as "MultiView".

Flexview/Multiview are just marketing names. (A)FFS is a technlology derived from IPS, just like S-IPS, DD-IPS or whatever. Essentially, it's the same thing.
