In other words, a Thinkpad version of the Sony TZ series, but even lighter? Yep, I would like that even more than the X300!

But I still find it hard to believe that the X300 can weigh 0.2 lbs less than the Sony TZ even though it's much bigger and has more features. I agree with K. Eng that this looks a little like a hoax, or at least the weight has been mistyped, e.g. it should be 3.5 lbs rather than 2.5 lbs. 3.5 lbs would still be fairly light, a little lighter than the X31/32 actually.

I agree with pianowizard, I thought it weighs about 1,4Kg which would be about 3.3lbs.

hehehe... a thinkpad tz edition! I really like the form factor a lot and think that it is much more... um "marketable"?... than a 13.3". Not to say I wouldnt find a high res screen and ultralight for its size very tempting (like the mb air), but when its all said and done, a full size T would offer more performance for less money, and a X is plenty portable without being too much "heavier", so my need for a large X quickly diminishes. But a smaller X... with touchscreen.. now that I would buy in a second!

But back to the original prompt, I think like the air, it is entirely possible to have a 3lb lappy with 13.3" screen and optical drive... especially with what appears to be, extensive use of cfrp. And one of those mtron ssd's would be icing on the cake!

I think that's true in Asia and Europe, but in the States, most people don't like tiny screens. 13.3" sells better than 11.1" or even 12.1" in the U.S.

If true, that's fantastic. I'd want the larger battery, and I much prefer a flat keyboard. Looks like I'll be happy on both counts.

I agree that it looks like a hoax. My caveat is the CPU, which seems to be too good to be true.

Wow, so even the cheapest model costs $2.8K. I would never ever walk out of my house with a laptop like this. It's too much to lose if I get mugged.

You won't. They've put up the "machine" for "sale" because they know people will be looking for it and they hope it'll drive traffic to items they actually do have in stock.

Lenovo isn't Apple, they don't announce things for availability in two weeks.

If those prices and specs are in the ballpark, there's going to be many disappointed people around. The cheapest model is over $2600 and has an SL7100, which is a 1.2Ghz Core 2 Duo. I think I'll stick with an X61s...

At least, like all new products, it will eventually come down in price. But as we all know, when that happens, something new and greater will be available for just as expensive!

Although I've predicted this price range in my previous post, I'd wait for Lenovo to actually start offering them instead of trusting online retailers...I'm very skeptical that any of these have actually sold anything related to X300 series...

I have it on good authority that the X300 will be officially announced, here in Germany, on the 26. Feb.

So, on notebookreview a guy said he met with a Lenovo sales rep and he said that X300 only comes with SSD disks.

Hmm, and you have to choose once whether you want a battery or a DVD burner. No Ultrabay superslim bay.

Somehow the whole things looks far more expensive than a Macbook HotAir.

At Ars Electronica they tested the SSD vs the 1.8" HDD and found no big difference.

Back in the day, laptops used to cost $2500-3500...

For that reason, I didn't start using laptops until Aug 2002, even though I have been using desktops since 1990.

This X300 makes the Macbook Air look cheap!

About a couple of months ago, I bought a second hand A31p, which was originally purchased in May 2002 at the price of 5300€. I think at that time, euro was cheaper than American dollar. But 5300EUR was still a lot of money. I always believe high price is associated with high quality and cutting edge technologies. I hope it will be the case for the X300.

We've just gotten spoiled by Lenovo sales recently here in the States, that's all...and by the idea that you can buy a new laptop (or shall I say craptop) for 500-600 dollars/euros/whatever...but the purchase of a new ThinkPad has never been a cheap sport to participate in....
