How big is it? What is the motherboard part number? There are some differences.

it's pretty tiny about the size of a half grain of rice or a tic tac
I'll try and get the motherboard serial if I can
I have a T41 2378 DHU
I'm running a geeksquad diagnostic now don't ask how I got that so far still passing all the tests

Is there any writing on the little piece?

no it's just a tiny brown rectangle with a silver stripe on each end either a cap or a mosfet I think?
it's been awhile since I've dealt with tiny components like this

It sounds like a capacitor. I cannot get a good enough picture to help.

It looks like a capacitor too. Pretty sure there's a whole lot of them all over the board. Only thing I can think of is to look for the empty spot where it once was, and stick it back on (with solder most likely).

And yes, it most likely is pretty critical.

The important thing was brown vs black. The black ones tend to be resistors, and yes, it is probably critical, and yes it needs to be soldered.

Why not put them on ImageShack or something, it may come handy to other T41 owners (like me)?

Looks like a cap. As all tests pass, it is probably a decoupling capacitor and hence is unlikely to be critical.

Very true. And ImageShack costs nothing, just upload the scans and post the thumbnails here.
