You might be a forum.thinkpads user if...

You get your hands on the high end unreleased laptop and the first thing you do is take it apart...

Thx for sharing the pics, what I am curious about is the screen resoltion. In the X6x tablet there were a few models with XSGA+ but not in the X6x versions.

Welcome to the forum, but please learn to use the search button.
This has been asked and answered a thousand times, most recently here about 3-4 weeks ago. The answer has always been no.

how would you compare the screen to a macbook screen? (i know macbooks still just have a TN panel, but somehow the backlight makes it look good enough)

i sold my 14" t42, as the screen was the worst i ever saw on any laptop :)

thanks

Also, is the CPU soldered on this as well? If not that would be incredible....

Soldered, there's no room for a socket. None of the X series have had socketed CPUs.

So frustrating. I suppose it will be possible to buy the motherboards with their upgraded processors, though significantly more expensive.

I am looking forward to the 22mm 1.86 Ghz Penryn (SL9400). It _will_ consume more power (17W vs. 12W specified in the X300 Features doc).

Nice machine!

Sure I will create another thread in the next few days. I can/will take comparison pictures of a x61, T61, T61 14" and 15" Wide to the X300. I also have a HP/Compaq 2510p that is similar to the X300

YES! I would love to see the 2510p next to the X300. I have an nc2400 which is virtually identical to the 2510p and it's one of my favorite ultraportable laptops on the market.

Hi Moore101,
can you confirm that the X300 has an ExpressCard slot?

Did the model you reviewed have HSDPA/UMTS?

Also, what's the story concerning WiMax connectivity on the X300? Was there any mention of this in any documentation you had with the machine?

No ExpressCard/PCCard slots. The model I got has no WWAN but I was able to add the internal Verizon card from a T61 and it works fine. There is a SIM slot under the battery so it could probably work with a internal HSDPA card I just don't have one to test.

No idea on the WiMax, nothing is listed in device manager under network/USB devices or in the BIOS.

Intel Core 2 Duo L7100 @ 1.2GHz. I believe it's a Ultra-low voltage processor.

About the price, according to Lenovo's habit, the price of x300 will be more than 40,000 RMB, we can buy a car with this pirce in China.

So, it seems that Lenovo only need to obtain repute not more consumers.

You are comparing the most advanced business machine with the low end Chinese car (normally not meet the safety standard of europe).

Why not compare X300 with a BMW bicycle?

My 600X begs to differ :)

And according to the Lenovo blogs, from a random sampling of TP users, a depressingly low number were even aware of the ThinkLight feature.

Of course, maybe you are right, in term of x300, I think I prefer buy it form other country such as Singapore, also USA, the price is more lower than China (It seems that all Chinses thinkpad owner are very rich, Lenovo think so at least, haha) :-)

I haven't taken it apart, though, like moore101 did. This one squealed pitifully when I showed it his pictures... ;-)

They really did a good job with the keyboard on this one; the screen is bright and clear; there's almost no heat coming out the vents (and I'm running one of the @home projects on it 24x7).

It's so light that I have to be careful when I switch back and forth with the X61 Tablet. I told Mark I almost tossed it across the room when I first got it as I lifted it out of my lap to stand up - I was used to picking up the weight of the tablet, and it almost got away from me!

I've had a problem with the sound turning itself off in Windows Media Player, but I think that's a Vista problem. I've started turning off a lot of the clutter in Vista, and it hasn't happened recently.

What type is yours : DVD, optional bay battery, standard/extended battery ?

It would be great if you could give us some different input regarding battery life... !

What's Vista's performance like in general with the 1.2Ghz LV Core2 processor and how much RAM do you have installed in it? Thanks.

I have to run out for a while, so I'll try to post more about it later.

Vista's performance is about the same as it is on the tablet now that I've turned most of the eye candy off. Before, it was snail slow. So was the tablet. Both of them have 2GB of memory. I haven't measured it on either of them, but if someone will suggest a (free) tool, I'll be glad to do so.

Re the earlier question about battery life, I'll do that tonight and let you know the results.

This one has the DVD and a standard battery.

With my normal workload, Rosetta@home running in the background and the screen very bright, the battery lasted 96 minutes. I'll try timing it in a more conservative mode tomorrow to see how many minutes I can eek out of it.
