2 finger scroll on T400

#1 Post by Spindoctor » Thu Nov 20, 2008 2:14 pm

Hi!

I was just trying to get two finger scroll and other multifinger gestures working on my new T400 notebook in Ubuntu 8.10, but didn't succeed.

The output of synclient -m also always shows me, that just one finger is detected.

Why is this the case?

Is the touchpad not able to detect more than 1 finger (I thought that all synaptics touchpad support that) or is it a software problem?

Is it solvable?

Thank you!

Probably better to ask this or get this moved to the Linux forum.

maybe you're right.

but first of all I need to know if the T400 is capable to detect more than one finger on the touch pad (the hardware side).

If it is, of course that's a Linux question.

Otherwise no matter which operating system I'm using, two finger scroll will never work...

Very interesting question

I've used a little bit some macs and this functionallity is really useful! It will be great to have it in our T400/T500

Does anyone know anything about it?

I'm not sure, but I think that's not possible.

I heard that some Netbooks have this possibility (EEE PC, MSI ...)
ThinkPad T500 2089-2QG P8600 160 HD 4 gigas DDR3 1066 Mhz cl5 HyperX
Ubuntu 9.04 x64

Intel Q6600 @ 3.1 Ghz 2x 320 WD SATA2 @7200 RPM Raid 0
Asus P5E3 Deluxe
4 gigas Patriot DDR3 1333 Mhz CL7 ATI HIS IceQ Radeon 3870
Windows Vista Business X64

in fact it seems like it is possible for most synaptics touch pads. use forum search or google to get further information.

Pitfully newer firmware versions of synaptics touch pads have disabled multitouch support.

Maybe one day it will be possible to change the firmware. right now I have no information about that
