When I press the restart button in Windows Vista the thinkpad shuts down and screen stays black, it is always on becouse I can hear the hard drive spinning.
Also if I enter in Bios and then exit I have the same problem...

When i press the Shut down button I do not have this problem.

Any ideas?

I assume your machine is still under warranty, so maybe it´s time for you to use it ;)

BTW, welcome to our forum! :)

I've had that happen on my t43. Can you boot to safe mode? If so, try to boot the machine fully into safe mode then try to restart the computer without the power button. Don't know why but sometimes that shakes unexplainable hiccups.

Isn't it likely that the issue is with the os? I wouldn't want to send off my computer to have a factory hdd image when I got it back

I thought you were experiencing this issue with the Lenovo factory image :) In such a case your laptop would have been probably eligible for warranty service. (BTW, you don´t need to send the laptop for repair with the HD included.)

Anyway, yes, it could be a software issue, only that part with exiting from BIOS is somewhat dubious, because BIOS is actually independent from OS and if you don´t enter in BIOS, my understanding is your laptop boots normally in Vista. Actually, this issue could be also BIOS-related (to be honest this now seems very likely to me). What BIOS version do you have? There might be a BIOS update that applies here. I would also run PC-Doctor/Lenovo System Toolbox to exclude any hardware-related problems.

Cheers,

Marin

Before i sent it in I loaded the factory image and the problem was still there.

I have 1.20. I downgraded to 1.19 and the problem was still there, now is back on 1.20
