I had seen reported that some T30s have a problem with one of the memory slots not working. Having just gotten a great deal on ebaY for one the these I was disappointed to find that mine had this problem. I tried putting some padding on top of the memory stick that wasn't being recognized and refastened the lid. It worked! If anyone else tries this please let me know if you have success so I don't think I'm hallucinating. Talk about an easy fix.... just hope it keeps on working. The pad may have to be replaced with something that will better keep its integrity... right now it's just folded tissue.
One thing, I placed the pad so the pressure is mostly on the edge of the stick opposite the pins. This (I guess) is causing leverage to press the pins up against the contacts.

You are not alone. This is a well known and well-documented problem with the T30.

Thanks for the response Dom, but do you think all I've done is force the disconnected soldered pins back into contact with this fix?

Yup,
to get a proper fix, you need to resolder (mostly the 6-10 outer) contacts on each side, using flux.

I have a couple with the spacer/wedge/shim in place and they run just fine. Hammerhead Tech in California specializes in fixing them, I have attempted and can never get a lasting fix.

Mine is still showing the added memory and I've moved the PC around quite a bit. I was going to replace the folded tissue pad with something more sophisticated, but I decided to leave well enough alone.

I just picked up another T30 and "my" fix (padding the memory card) doesn't work. Know anyone who wants to do the solder fix? Is a systemboard swap doable without a lot of $?
