fyi: If this is the same seller that I used on eBay, then it is 13n7196. I bought one after assurance that it was the SRGB screen and had to send it back.

Yes, BOE-Hydis (now Hydis) manufactured them for IBM/Lenovo for several months, but only for certain models. Mostly X series, as they get knocked around quite a bit, and for a 3-month period, the 2007-94u model number of the T60p (UXGA only). I lucked out and realized upon receipt of my T60p that mine had one of those.

As I mentioned above, everything inside the "top" of the machine -- except the LCD panel itself -- is LCD panel-independent, i.e., is the same for all T60/p series machines that have the same screen size.

Clarification: There are 4 types of LCD cables (with and without Bluetooth connector, for XGA vs. SXGA+/UXGA) but those differences are not dependent on the brand of the LCD panel.

hmm......on this page about T60 15" LCD Parts.....

I dropped my phone on my screen tonight and put in a nice little spider crack. :(
Currently I have a XGA screen (14" T60) 1024x768

If i decide to get a new screen can i put in a SXGA+ and have 1400x1050 resolution?
Will this work?

Also so far about 170 shipped on ebay seems to be the beast deal.. is there any other places that one would recommend to get a new screen?

Thanks!

Too many quotes to list, but....

..my newbie brain encased in my cranium tells me that I´m a little confused by all of this
:? I just got my head round on being given answers on t60p flexview and now some other questions have come up

So correct me if I`m wrong but:

1) T60p UXGA are either IPS from IDTech, or FFS by BOE-Hydis.
2) You wont have any idea which screen you will end up with when making a purchase.
3) 13N7196 did go into production at some point on certain models, but can not be purchased where as the 13N7076 can.

Sorry, I´ve got a T60p on it´s way (2007-CTO which I presume is made to order), so I´m wondering whether it will be a 13N7076 or an IDTech. I´ll probably just slam in the British sterling for a 13N7076 if the difference from an IDTech is large enough. (I´m an animator and illustrator).

No. All T60p UXGA units are Hydis, and FFS. There are two versions of this LCD, but the only difference is RoHS compliance.

The very last T60p machines with SXGA+ LCDs and C2D CPUs had LG Phillips.

ID Tech IPS LCDs officially died with T43p.

Are those the LCDs that suffered the so-called "screen sparkle" effect?

No. The ones with "sparkles" were the Hydis ones.

This is not completely correct - although this was never officially told by Lenovo. The last batches of T60p UXGAs came with IDTech UXGAs. Next to the LCD manufacturer date, they have a barcode with small text below it with a different font compared to those found in R5x/T4x series. It had FRU p/n: 42T0345 (and there is a blue dot from a marker pen right above it - no idea why).

LG/Philips SXGA+ Flexviews also suffered from grain/sparkle in some batches ( viewtopic.php?f=29&t=35305 ) , and thus received criticism - but i never heard it isolated to one brand in particular, and all of this might have been pretty subjective. Haven't seen anything yet regarding Hydis though.

@Troels:

Interesting. I must have a completely different understanding of what the "sparkle" issue is supposed to be or look like...it's got to be pretty subjective...

I have seen (my opinion only) something that would qualify as such on some of the Hydis panels used in T60p and X61T.

I have not seen it anywhere else....

Then again, I'm overdue for Lasik by at least three years...

Heh... Speaking of Lasik, wow i'd really love to have a Lasik done - contacts getting too expensive in the long run and look stupid with glasses. But it costs an arm an a leg over here, about $4800 :(

Now that you do mention it, i now recall having heard complaints about the X61t too regarding sparkling LCDs on SXGA+ units. You were absolutely right - thanks for reminding! 8)

I decided to throw a random 14.1" SXGA+ LCD in my T60 with the cracked screen earlier this evening. What happened was not what I expected. The screen actually appears to freeze the system after about 10 seconds. When the new LCD is not connected, or when the old one is connected, it works fine, you just can't see anything, obviously. But when the new LCD is connected, the system posts, and will freeze, usually after the thinkpad splash screen.

I found that to be somewhat interesting and I guess it's related to the EDID issue that is the reason you can't put T4x SXGA+ panels in T6x laptops. Now I'm off to the marketplace to ask for a 42T0373

I just picked up a t60p and it has a 15 inch LCD, 1600x1200, (edit. MFG 42T0344). Is that an ID Tech UXGA IPS screen? From another thread 42T0344 was one of the IPS screens to look for. It's a lot better than my T42 screen which looks washed out in comparison, but I've never seen an IPS screen to compare.

According to forum member: Johan in this Post: Order LCD panel directly from Lenovo, he mentions "MFG 42T0344 = FRU 42T0345 (ID Tech)"

Yeah, I copied the wrong column from the parts info, it is MFG 42T0344, so FRU of 42T0345. Thanks for the info.

T60, 14.1", XGA, X1300. What is the possibilities to have a better screen in this machine (2007-F2G)

Higher resolution and IPS would be fine, although I know the IPS is only reachable on the 15" models.

Thanks,

I have one of the IPS display T60P machines. I got one of the last ones after Lenovo stopped making them. I love it. The display is beautiful. It is heavy and the Lenovo has stopped updating the FireGL V5200 drivers. But I put in a Core 2 Duo chip, and run W7 Ultimate 64 bit on it. It is a shame that these displays are no longer available. I would expect that some day, superior displays will find their way back onto laptops. Apples seem to be quite nice. What do they use?

Is there a non-IPS among 15" SXGA+ LCD in T60p ? Until now I think all 15" SXGA+ are IPS.
But in this e-bay auction the author said that it is a non-FlexView (i.e. non-IPS) screen.
I checked the part list of this model and found a strange thing that the FRU of the screen is not listed in this list.
Your comment, please !

Did you mean exact panel model numbers? I don't have a model list, but they are all TN panels - but overall they seem to get the best TN panels in production.

No non-IPS types. All 15" SXGA+ or UXGA in T60p were flexviews. Maybe he broke the original screen and replaced it with what he could find on ebay as "compatible" LCDs. It's really hard to tell from the picture.
In the parts lookup, look for "41W6707" with a description of something along the lines of 15" SXGA+ IPS

Troels, thanks for reply.
I think this T60 is an later model (02/2007) and Lenovo had experienced a shortage in IPS LCD supply, so they took an TN SXGA screen to this T60p.
I was thinking that the owner has replaced screen. But why the FRU number of LCD is not listed in part-list ? The fact that screen bezel (?) 41W6707 is listed as IPS may be considered as a mistake by Lenovo. Sometimes IBM/Lenovo said that the bezel is IPS even for 14" models.

Binh,
The last models with UXGA were sold as 2623-DDUs sometime around May 2007, and SXGA+ 15" units were definitely available in larger quantities at that point. 41W6707 seems to be SXGA+ Flexviews based on this thread: (search for the term) viewtopic.php?p=281052 and this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=138317

The best way would've been if the seller would post the info retrieved from the LCD panel EDID, by Monitor asset manager (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm) or similar util.

But i guess it's too late now since the auction is over :(
Were you interested in buying one?

Original screen for that ebay auction is likely Mfg # 42T0324 on the parts lookup. Is probably LG (LP150E05-A2). See Manufacturer of 42T0324? (15" T60 SXGA+ FlexView LCD) (but useful discussions of # on multiple other threads.) Unclear how not flexview. Unit has accidental thinkpad warranty so would have been no need to replace privately. Lenovo apparently replaces with genuine IPS/Flexviews if needed when under warranty.

Thank you. It is clear for me now :D . May be the seller is wrong talking about the type of the screen.

Yes, if the screen is in perfect condition and the price is not too high
However, I am afraid that there are some problems for shipping to Vietnam.

Does anyone know what the best 14.1" 1400x1050, or 1600x1200 LCD made is? It doesn't have to be limited to Lenovo/IBM parts, or even currently manufactured parts. What brands and model numbers are know for being particularly good? Did anyone ever make an IPS 14.1" LCD?

I'm thinking about trying to install a better LCD in my T60. I'm an EE, so I'm not afraid of making some modifications to make a better LCD work in a T60. I'm I'm successful, I will happily share my work on this board.

I recently acquired a T60P with the Boe Hydis UXGA and absolutely love sitting in front of the screen. But Im in a quandary about how to clean it. There are those who use water on a sponge, others isopropyl alcohol, others commercial solutions.

What's the safest and best way?
Thanks

50/50 mix of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol applied with a microfiber cloth.

And easy on the isopropyl. Higher concentrations can leave a whitish residue; I don't understand what that is since the alcohol should evaporate 100%.
I would start with 90% distilled water, if that gets it clean enough then you've avoided using solvent. On an old, non-valuable screen I'll use premixed iso/h20, 50-70%.

Regarding screen cleaning, what about 100% distilled water on a microfiber cloth? No solvents at all. I remember one fellow saying he used distilled water with a sponge.

I recently acquired a T60P with the Boe Hydis UXGA and absolutely love sitting in front of the screen. But Im in a quandary about how to clean it. There are those who use water on a sponge, others isopropyl alcohol, others commercial solutions.

What's the safest and best way?
Thanks

Congratulations on your Advanced Fragfield Shielding Super IPS (AFFS S-IPS) T60p!

I've got the same kind, also from Hydis. How much did it set you back and where'd you get it? (if i may ask...;) )

Let me know if you need any help upgrading the CPU, WiFi card and/or keeping the heatsink and fan clean which is important with the T60p's.
