here's my 2 cents. i don't use visual studio but i downloaded the trial version and it's pretty neat. i'm running windows 7 32 on 4 old x series thinkpads. i had to try visual studio on an hp coz the thinkpads weren't up to it. anyway, i had vista on one and it used up a lot of space on the hard drive and it booted up slow and it had lags in it everywhere. windows 7 didn't have any of that but had the same features as vista. it is snappier than vista. plus windows 7 has an option that gives you xp pro in a virtual machine that runs within windows 7. it allows you to run xp programs from windows 7 which normally won't run. only windows 7 pro and ultimate give you that option though. once i got the drivers figured out and got everything configured right, all my machines run great. they boot up faster than xp and shut down faster. programs load faster. everything just seems to run smoother.
for you, it's gonna be a personal preference. if you're happy with vista, and everything works alright then i doubt if you're gonna gain much. with me, i gained a lot, but i really noticed the difference on my slower machines.
