Hey guys,

I have a ThinkPad X40 where the USB ports stopped working. I'm looking into replacing the motherboard. I was just wondering if there is a motherboard I can get that will be an upgrade from the regular one....maybe one that can hold more ram?

Thank you!

an x41 should go right in there. i answered a post in another section where i didn't think that an x41t motherboard would fit in an x40 and i was told that it would except that some indicator lights don't work. so if an x41t will fit, an x41 non tablet board should be an exact fit. the ram is ddr2. a 2 gig stick will work. the chipset will read 2 gig usable.

OH sweet! You don't by chance know a good place to buy one online? I know I'm lazy but it would be awesome if you already know the place :)

Thank you very much!

Do you also see a big performance difference?

Also, I noticed that on the Crucial website, they say that there is only one Ram slot and it's a max of 1GB. Were you able to successfully get the 2GB in there?

the x40 will only take a 1 gig stick of ddr. the x41 will take a 2 gig stick of ddr2.

Since the unit was DOA when I fished it out of the dumpster, I have no basis for comparison. It's not what I would call fast, but it's faster than my A31p. I did put a 2Gb memory stick in the X41. It still has the IBM 40GB HDD in it.
