I got a brand new KingSpec 16GB SSD for my ThinkPad X41 Tablet and later for my basic X41. I have it in my Tablet and get this error 2010.

Not much you can do. Hit "Esc" to continue if you have an older BIOS. If BIOS is updated, it'll continue booting on its own. Other option is to get an IBM drive. You'll have the same problem with the X41.

IIRC there's a BIOS hack that can skip the error message, but it's probably not worth it. I mean... how often do you really boot your machine?

Glad it's working so well. Just curious: seems like that's marginally more than the space that Windows itself will take up. What OS are you running and how much space for yourself is left?

Im just running its original shipped OS, Windows XP Professional. With the latest Microsoft and ThinkVantage updates. you have around 10GB. The X41 and X41 tablet are really for travel so internet is really all I do on them.

I have my X41 Tablet up and running fine and wanting to use the tablet part of this great ThinkPad. I have my copy of Windows XP Professional SP 3 installed on it. I don't have the pen right now but using a penable pen for a touchscreen. Is the ThinkPad Pen the same as anyother penable or is it the Windows XP Pro or is there a certin driver I need to the touch to work. I don't own a copy of the Windows XP Table PC Edition. Just Home Edition and Professional both Upgrade and Full CDs.

560X,
What pen are you using? I mean, what is it from?
Any Wacom Tablet PC pen will work on any Wacom Tablet PC. But Wacom has several product lines besides tablet pc digitizers, and any of those other pens will not work for you. What confuses me is that you said your pen is "Penabled". That is the marketing term used for Tablet PCs with Wacom digitizers, I think. If I understand correctly, the X41t is "Penabled", and should work with any "Penabled" pens.

The pen designed for X41t will fit well in its garage. That's the main reason to stick with the original parts. But I used a X6* pen with my X41t. And I am using an Axiotron pen with my Motion M1400.

Be aware that unless you performed a tricky mod, your X41t does not have a touchscreen. It is active digitizer only; you cannot operate it with only a finger.

I checked eBay for you. Item 130475623341 is a couple X41 pens. Item 200564675972 is the cheapest compatible pen I could find. I use one of those Axiotron pens every day. It comes with a whole bunch of extra tips; the black "felt tip" is my favourite.

before I buy any of them, will the penable function work on Windows XP Professional? I don't have Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.

Now that, I do not know. You would probably need Tablet Edition to calibrate it, but maybe it would work without calibration?
In devmgmt, is a driver loaded for the digitizer? Check [Human Interface Devices] > [Wacom Serial Pen Tablet].

It has all the drivers installed from ThinkVantage system update for the tablet buttons. And I don't see why it wouldn't work as Professional is the best edition to get. other than the new windows version Ulitmate.

Well, all of the special purpose XP editions (Media Center, Tablet, and 64-bit) are based on Professional. So if you got the original preload, it is not like you would miss anything.

About the tablet buttons: do they all work? Are you able to customise them?

Again, what pen do you currently have?

Well, there's your problem!

I believe your WorkPad uses resistive touch. That means it detects pressure, which can come from any object, whether a finger or a plastic stylus. Like a Nintendo DS.

But your ThinkPad Tablet uses an active digitizer (made by Wacom). It produces a field over the screen, and suitable pens have a chip inside them that is powered by the field. It is at least a little like RFID, if you know what that is. Your PDA stylus is not Wacom Penabled (Registered/Copyright/Trademark of Wacom).

I got my real ThinkPad X41 T pen in today and went to try it and its not working. Is there a small battery inside to make it work? Or do I have to have the Tablet edition then, witch I don't have. I have Windows Vista Home Basic and Windows 7 Home Premium if those are any better. My SSD in it is a 16GB tho.

Then that settles my uncertainty: drivers or not, plain XP Professional does not work with Tablet PC displays. If you have Vista or 6.1 "7", definitely give that a try. They each have dramatically improved tablet functionality.

I remember seeing a Tablet settings under Windows 7 control panel on my desktop. Will Windows 7 even install on a 16GB Hard drive? I bought a 16GB SSD for it awail back.

I am almost positive that it will install. Whether that is enough room for daily operation is another question. I once installed Vista Enterprise (like Ultimate but without Media Center) to a 10 GB drive. Immediately after first boot, it warned me "you are running out of disk space; 0 bytes remaining". I laughed! I fear that it must have been overwriting something to get to zero bytes remaining.

I guess its like windows XP, It kept saying I didn't have enough room or memory "RAM" when installing XP on my 560X and 701C. 40MB of memory. I had to upgrade the 701C hard drive for sure tho it was like 500MB something around there. I'll try my Windows 7 tonight then.

I did looking on the drivers page and found this.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-60154

It says This package provides the software support for the Tablet buttons for Microsoft Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 users. So XP Professional isn't going to work.
