So, most of you know that I have fixed up 1 or 2 computers and given them away.
Today I got a phone call from a former recipient, and low and behold its my very first T23. I know because it has the horribly cobbled together wireless antennas. One is mounted in the ultra-bay slot and the other is in the palmrest. NOT PRETTY!

Anyway, I dont have a clue whats this one is doing. It powers on fine, will not ever seek the OS, will not enter the BIOS and shows a weird "raindrop" pattern on the screen. Her plight has changed considerably over the last few years, She has finished her degree and is employed fulltime, with a small apartment for her and her daughter so a fix is not critical...but its odd, darned odd.

Standard hardware troubleshooting method applies:

- remove all hardware (HD, memory, MiniPCI, Ultrabay) and see if you get the 1-3-3-1 beep
- if so, then install a single memory module, power up and see what happens
- if you still get the weird display and/or can't gain access to BIOS, I'd say you are looking at some sort of motherboard or display problem
- try external video to see what's going out on that port (Fn+F7 may be required to activate the VGA port after system is powered up)

Already tried Ray, no memory beeps, but it will power on and off with the keyboard. Its odd, very odd.

OK - what's the 1-3-3-1 beep? is that the pattern we get when trying to boot with no RAM??? Is the 1-3-3-1 the relative duration (short long long short) or a # of beeps in succession. I think it's the relative duration since whenever i forget to put RAM in a test machine i get 1 short 2 long and then 1 more short beeps.

By the 2nd long beep the machine is powered off so i can insert the RAM!

I take it that no beeps (and nothing else) is a more serious CPU / MB problem...

Beep pattern is the "missing ram" heads up. Tjis machine appears to hace crapped the Southbridge, but thats just a guess. Never even heard of a T23 giving up th ghost like this one has.

Missing RAM beep 1-3-3-1 = /1 beep/pause/3 beeps/pause/3 beeps/pause/1 beep/
