Just got a T43p 2668 WCJ and the HDD is making noise, kind of a buzzing noise when reading/writing, and it seems to slow it down. I have a T42 and it's HDD is almost completely silent, so I'm wondering if this HDD is about to fail. I'm assuming it has it's original HDD; it's a 60GB either Hitachi or Fujitsu. Should I be looking for a new HDD soon?

Still using the T42 that I got 2 years ago for work, bumped it up to 2GB, got 2 new batteries, and a dock, all for about $200 (including the Thinkpad itself). It runs Windows 7 Enterprise, and does it quite well.

Thanx

A noisy hard drive is usually one that's going bad.

Backup whatever data you need and start shopping for a replacement.

Good luck.
