~250DPI/retina screen for X220 Tablet would be suitable now
~250DPI/retina screen for X220 Tablet would be suitable now
Hi,
Now that the market starts getting ~250DPI screens for iPad:s, and as it seems, the next 2-3 months also for MacBook Pro:s,
It's be great for the X220 Tablet and alike Lenovo laptops to support this DPI also.
Windows' support for high resolutions is good enough. Windows 8 may make it even a bit better. Professional users are fine with the highres support that's out there already.
Kind regards
MacBook Pro to get 2880x1800px rumor, and new Intel chipsets to support up to 4096x4096px displays: http://www.macrumors.com/2011/12/14/app ... n-q2-2012/

The laptop would be heavier and get hotter, and battery duration would suffer. Are you sure you want that?
In my view, for 16:9 screens, these would be the sweet spots:
12.5" --> 1600x900 (146.9 DPI; the Panasonic CF-SX1 has this)
13.1" --> 1680x945 (147.1 DPI)
14.5" --> 1920x1080 (151.9 DPI)
15.6" --> 2048x1152 (150.6 DPI)

The Lenovo X61T has 1400x1050. I use the 1050 aspect of it every day, it's extremely useful. So yes, even if battery use and head production goes up a little bit, it is worth it.
For a X220T-size laptop, something like QWXGA (2048×1152) or QXGA (2048×1536) would be pretty perfect.
(Btw, this would probably end up in approx the same DPI:s as are rumored for the upcoming Macbooks.)

I expect the X230T will have a Q resolution option, but expect it to be in the 2000 dollar range when its first released.
Personally, I can only see these displays being useful on Tablets as it makes reading magazines and documents in portrait mode a better experience. Right now, magazines are hard to read on Tablets, because of the low Res display.

Hi Kaze22,
That sounds great!
Any clue when this X230T will come out? What about this Q res., did you read about it anywhere? Really ought to be an IPS display right?
Kind regards

Rumor is floating around in some Chinese Thinkpad forums. Since Lenovo is HQed in China, maybe some truth in it.

Perhaps you were reading about the Lenovo tablet with 1920x1200? http://androidcommunity.com/lenovo-tegr ... -20111118/

Re: ~250DPI/retina screen for X220 Tablet would be suitable now
I wouldn't be surprised if the next X230 will have super high-res display. Heck, the next gen Asus ultrabook will offer IPS 1080p in both 11.6 and 13.3 inch models even (yes, I said IPS!)

It is indeed good times ahead for DPI fanatics (like myself, the 1080p Sony Vaio Z has spoiled me lol)
