Greetings,

I recently aquired an X41t with no hard drive and busted battery after trading a friend a working T42 for it. I spent a couple of months researching, buying a cheap 16gb SSD from Suntek and a reconditioned battery and am now using this as my portable internet machine at work. I am running XP tablet, tethering to my phone and it runs pretty well. I managed to modify a curly keyring lanyard to stop me losing the pen and attached it to the air vent. I am also storing documents to an SD card to keep space free on the SSD and in case that module fails. I do have some questions however and everything I search for on the X41t seems to lead back here so I signed up.

I know the standard X4 dock works with this tablet, and that the media base for the regular X41 does not work with the X41t, but was there a media base that was designed for an X41t? If not can the X41 media base be modified and in what way does it not work? I ask because I would find it useful.

On a less serious note I am currently failing at getting half life working on it. It did work for a short while but broke. GTA seems to work fine. I am pondering either trying to locate my CD copy of UT99 or just buying a new copy and trying that. Has anyone had any stories of running old games on the x41t?

For a tablet you need the X4 Ultrabase dock: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_X4_Dock

The hardware is too limited really, to play any games on in an acceptable way. Get a desktop if you want to play games.

Greetings. I already mentioned the X4 Dock, and it plays Grand Theft Auto in an extremely acceptable way. Older games run quite well on it, although HL was never really designed to work on XP hense it is playing up.

I was specifically asking for information on a media base as opposed to a desktop docking station. I apologise if I did not make that clear. I was after something that would effectively make it a fat laptop that I could split in half rather than having something to turn it into a desktop.

I have a gaming PC at home, and am an avid EvE player. I am also quite handy at L4D2 and TF2 (I play mostly engie) despite being a trackball using wierdo. I don't want to be offtopic though so i'll save that for another day.

I think you are staring yourself blind on the word "media".
This is only meant in the context of other 'media', such as CD/DVD or 2nd hard disk.
Nothing to do with 'multimedia' as in TV, games, music, etc.

When did I imply that the two subjects were connected? I did say "on a less serious note".

Seems the mobos from X41 and X41T fit in either machine, but that the LEDs are wired differently.
That leads me to assume that the dock-slot might be identical.

Some pictures of the X41 tablet dock: http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Thinkpad-X4 ... 0987551558
Ditto for the standard X41 Ultrabase: http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Lenovo-Thin ... 0415645770

Here's a link to the HMM for X4 dock (tablet): http://tim.id.au/laptops/lenovo/thinkpa ... tablet.pdf

I've got an X41 Tablet and when I got it it came with the docking base. I'm at work but when I get home I'll see if I can get you a model number. The base includes a pair of speakers, a CDR/DVD drive and all the ports, seriel, printer, USB, modem and network. I'll try to get you more info on it.

OK, It's the ThinkPad X4 Dock #2506. P/N 26R8343, FRU P/N 26R8536. The back of the dock has a PS2 Mouse/Keyboard port, 3 USB Ports, a VGA port, a serial port, printer port, modem and a networking port. Amazon has a used, LIKE NEW, one listed for $19.99. Well worth the money.
