I went up the line from an A600(?), through T22, T30, now have a T42 and T43, both working perfectly.
I have had to help family and friends with their problems on their laptops - gateway, Acer, HP and Apple and others. The only laptops that can even compare to the reliability and ease of use of Thinkpads are Apple. All the others are basically junk.
I have yet to try any new Lenovo because they all come with Vista or Win 7 which are both terrible with their heavy memory overload.
Bill

Hi Bill,

I can only talk from my expereince with the T43 that I own. It was the first ThinkPad that I had purchased in a long time, the previous was the 240. I remember either in 2005 or 06 is when I got the machine. I found it on Craig's List for $900 and something. Last summer I got a Fan Error when it was booting up then it shut itself off. I am going to fix the T43 since it is a good machine. It has the high resolution panel, which I don't remember the ressolution right now, but I loved that panel and the machine!

I can't comment on the Win7 on the heavy memory overload that your refer too. I don't have that much expereince with Win7. I know this thread is about your T42 & T43 but can you clarify on why Win7 has a heavy memory overload?

Thanks,
John

Well, not quite (on both points). Many T60/T61 (and contemporary machines) came with XP or an XP downgrade option. Not to mention that you can still always install XP, even on the newest machines (not that I would recommend that since Vista/Win7 are better operating systems at this point).

As far as memory overload - that's also a common misconception. Vista/Win7 allow better utilization of available system memory for application caching. So it will seem like you have less free memory, but it's designed to improve performance (the feature is called Superfetch). And in any case it can be disabled, at which point the overhead over XP's memory footprint remains quite small.
