Over on another forum it was reported that it is SATA3, per Lenovo sales.

You are welcome. Although i've read the Intel mobile chipsets only support up to to 2 SATA3 connections, the x230(t) has no optical drive so it makes sense that both storage drives would get SATA3 connections.

Don't forget about the docking station / ultrabase. One SATA channel is routed there for sure.

True, but if I were Lenovo, I wouldn't sacrifice one of the two SATA3 channels for what will probably just be an optical drive on the ultrabase for a small percentage of customers that buy it. SATA2 would suffice for that. I really hope one of the early buyers can confirm this before I spring for a high end SATA3 mSATA.

How would I check that. I'm kind of hoping it is sata3 on the dock since I plan on using the sata port on the dock for an external drive. Just perf test it? Or is there something I can verify in the settings/hardware?

Perf testing would be fairly easy, but if you aren't putting in a high end sata3 hdd or ssd, you won't be able to tell the difference. I just looked up some high end Sata3 discs, and while some of them can read.from their buffer at sata3 speeds, they can're read off the disc nearly quick enough to make a difference.

SATA 6gb/s on the main and ultrabay channels
SATA 3gb/s on mSATA

you'll never notice the difference anyway so buy what you want and enjoy it.

In practical terms my R60e with SATA I controller, which is the oldest PC i have by at least three years, often feels like my fastest machine for typical usage due to the Intel SSD inside and it runs Linux. SATA III only matters for things that put a heavy load on the controller, which most tasks don't do.
