I have an ultrabay battery that all of a sudden will only report "40%" charge... this was working a week ago and all of a sudden just jumped.

I have to assume this is a bad cell or something else... anyone happen to know what the process is to check for warranty service/replacement on this?

Reseating the battery doesn't help, neither does rebooting the machine... anything else that can be tried?

How long have you had it?

I bought it in the fall of last year...

From the battery manager application:
- Cycle count: 35
- Date of Mfg: 2011-09-07
- First used : 2011-11
- Serial Number 1199
- FRU part No: 51J0508
- Mfg: SONY
- Bar-Code: 1ZH6919715F

Hopefully that's enough info?

I had a ultrabay battery that died within the first year, that was a while ago on the prior t60, so don't recall the cycle count.

Get it replaced, it should have a one year warranty on it.

Does anyone know the procedure to get this replaced? I called Lenovo this morning and got bounced back and forth between something they called "Tech support" (which was in Atlanta) and "IBM options something or other" which, to be indiscreet, did not sound like it was in Atlanta. ;)

I got a case number from the tech support folks, but the "IBM options" people were apparently supposed to generate the RMA but did not/ could not.

I've generally had really really good luck with lenovo support, but this was pretty painful and after the third ping-pong back and forth I just gave up. ;-(

Have you tried the Battery Reset under Battery Maintenance in Lenovo PowerManager?

I'm kind of guessing that you have since you spoke with Atlanta, as I'm sure that would be one of the first things they would say, I just did not see that you had mentioned trying that yet.

edit: ahh, who cares. Get a new one like the others said, since it is still under warranty.
