Confused by various x220 FRUs
Confused by various x220 FRUs
I am planning to get a Thinkpad x220 with ips. According to HMM there are 4 LCD FRUs 93p5669, 93p5671, 93p5673, 93p5675.
Both 93p5671 and 93p5673 seems to be non-ips, as it states "LCD panel, 12.5-in. WXGA, LED backlight.
93p5675 states "LCD panel, 12.5-in, HD LED backlight premium", so it is ips.
But 93p5667 states "LCD panel, 12.5-in, HD LED backlight", which has "HD" BUT without premium. Is this a ips, or not? And what is "HD" and "premium" stands for?
Thanks

Re: Confused by various x220 FRUs
I don't recall ever seeing the term IPS on lenovo.com as a configuration option for the X220 display - at least not when I was shopping for one in autumn of 2011. I believe the designation was always "HD" for the regular display, and "Premium HD" for the IPS display. So I'd look for the latter term if you don't see IPS mentioned specifically.
Where are you planning to buy an X220? If you're in the US, check out outlet.lenovo.com (I don't know if that's available in Canada or elsewhere). There were some decent X220 deals there very recently, and the display specs there will state IPS if it has it.

Re: Confused by various x220 FRUs
I believe the HD means the HD resolution or 1366x768.

Re: Confused by various x220 FRUs
Thanks for the quick reply.
I am actaully looking at outlet. Outlet doesn't ship to Canada but I have a mail drop across border and a US credit card and I have purchased from them before. One of the problem with outlet is that they are not very accurate with their description and the best way is use their serial # to do a parts look up, and that's when I discovered 3 different descriptions ( WXGA, HD, and HD Premium ). When googling 93p5669 it comes back with IPS in lots of thread, and that why I am hoping someone here might have a tp with same FRU can confirm or whether it is a IPS or not.
I do know it is made by Samsung though.

Re: Confused by various x220 FRUs
So.. the Samsung is not IPS? If that's the case only 1 FRU 93p5675 ( LG ) is IPS then?ZaZ wrote:I believe the HD means the HD resolution or 1366x768.
Re: Confused by various x220 FRUs
I bought my X220 with IPS from the outlet, and personally I'd have more confidence in the display specs in the outlet listing than I would in trying to work backwards from the model # and information found in the HMM. If it says IPS, it definitely should have an IPS panel. If it doesn't say IPS, I wouldn't gamble on it having it.
Re: Confused by various x220 FRUs
I believe the IPS screens are LGs. That's what my X220i has and the X230 review unit I had earlier this year.

Re: Confused by various x220 FRUs
Yes, I got the non-IPS using this very clever and confusing method!
Surely Lenovo know how popular the IPS screen is to us TP fanatics.
Would it be too difficult to put the letters I.P.S. in the description of this model.
rant over, love the X220
