T530: Thinkvantage turns DVD drive off, can't turn back on

#1 Post by wkw » Thu Dec 06, 2012 12:37 pm

So, topic sums it up.. I've done some searches, and according to screenshots, there should be an option in the thinkvantage power applet to enable/disable the powering off of the DVD drive when idle.
That is not the case with me.
After some period of inactivity, it seems like the dvd drive powers off. The only way I can turn it back on is by removing it in device manager or rebooting the machine.
I'm not sure what to do.
I've already reinstalled the power applet, but there is no change. Any help is apprecitaed. Or if you'd like to swap the DVD drive for a sata dock, I'd be game for that as well ;)

What about the USB Settings -- I have USB Selective Suspend Setting on Disabled -- maybe that also affects the DVD?

I also have PCI Express Setting -- Link Power State Setting is Off -- I'm not really sure what the "Linked Power State" would do if turned On, but with it turned Off, I don't have any problems of hardware going to sleep on me :?

Not sure, I'll double check and change my settings to what you have when I get home

Well, it seems I have run into a glitch.

I made a power scheme, and copied EVERY setting from the "maximum battery" scheme, and it still shuts off.
But if I switch to the maximum battery scheme, it doesn't shut off.
O.o
I guess I'll just use the maximum battery scheme

I don't use battery power much, so my usual Power Manager setting is Maximum Performance. I would have guessed the Maximum Battery Life setting would be the scheme to disable various components, so I can't guess why that setting is working for you -- but at least it works :thumbs-UP:

Indeed. I like to have it set to maximum battery when on battery, and maximum preformanance when plugged in for the obvious reasons
