I have a green beam, vertical, about a 1/16 of inch in thickness running from the bottom of my screen to the top. VERY Annoying!

This just happened today. Is it anything I can possibly fix? Or do I call it in and return it as it is only 10 days new. I will likely be out 2-3 weeks a new laptop, but this beam of light is ridiculous!

What do I say? I just want to return it? Or do I have to inform them of the defect? - note, Ive babied this laptop 100%. No way I phsyically caused it. Im just sitting here browsing on a site and WHAM, a freakin Luke Skywalker photon beam! WTF

Please help and inform..
Thank you!

Sounds like a physical problem with the screen. Even if it goes away I'd be suspecting it will come back. You know what you need to do. Call.

it could be any one of several problems..

either return it or send it in for warranty repair..

this sort of thing happens.. not your fault..

Take a look, the first is under Linux and the second under XP

Call Lenovo and ask for a return... there is almost no way that physical damage to a panel would cause a perfect line like that.

I have to say though, the reference to Skywalker's lightsaber is pretty funny :D, even though the fact that your notebook is defective isn't :(

Alright, so I ordered the 2668-75U today. It is basically the same laptop before except it has the Atheros card.

Geez, my rep really put the pressure on when I wanted to return mine.. I said I didn't like the screen. After about an hour trying to decide my next one with him on the phone, he got mixed up and I tried saying.. 'yeah.. let's go with the 2668-72U(which is exactly what I had before), and he's like ok, let's do that... then after about ten minutes he wakes up and says 'wait, isn't that what you've got now?' And I just played dumb like I thought I had the C4U or something... we were both really sick of sorting through the codes at this point.

Something tells me he didn't want to accept a return for the same model and I didn't want to inform of the defect cuz I wasn't sure if they would accept the return or if I was obligated to have it serviced. He finally gave an RMA and it leaves here tomorrow... no stickers.. and a completely formatted hard drive. :D Time to hurry up and wait for 2 weeks again.

I made that decision earlier to require the intel card, thinking it had better support on linux. Find it a bit disappointing that FN+F5 on windows wasn't so good. Also, I'd rather not have to deal with the madwifi project, and decided to get the Intel 2915 (ipw2100 linux driver), but also happened to overlook the fact that madwifi has been in development for a longer time. Either way...

Im not sure I understand you... FN+F5 works fine in Windows with my Intel card. Madwifi under Linux? which Distro? Atheros is related to the madwifi? is that good or bad? I installed Ubuntu and it worked, including the intel card, RIGHT OUT of the box.. it was amazing.. the first distro for me anyways that worked that good..

Well, I ordered my T43 with the Intel 2915 card as it's the only card I haven't been able to order thru IBM's website. It seems like it can only be aquired by specifically ordering it for a laptop that already had one. I've got the IBM part numbers for it, but none of the carts will let me add it. Maybe it's an Intel Centrino licensing issue. Strange!

Anyways, ordering the IBM Atheros AR5004X at a later date shouldn't be a problem, as it's easily purchased thru every division on IBM's website, in addition, many 'net retailers sell them as well.
