AC power connection loose in T41??
AC power connection loose in T41??
The connection to T41 from the AC power adaptor is suddenly giving problems with Loose connection. This is a 2 year old machine and everything else is good. If I try 2 or 3 times, the third time it works. What is the problem - Is it with the AC power plug or the Laptop AC power socket?

The usual recommendation is to use a voltmeter to test the voltage at the DC power plug coming from the AC adapter. If you do not have a meter, or another Thinkpad which to test the AC adapter with, then it's hard to definitely say where the problem lies. If the wire at the end of the plug does not have any obvious kinks, cracks or cuts, then I would suspect that the DC power jack in the laptop has a loose or dirty connection.

Ac power connection
I do not think the voltage is a problem since once it picks up, the laptop gets the AC power without any problem. it might be the laptop power socket. If it is the case, how difficult it is to change it? Is it soldered to the motherboard or a part that could be replaced?

Not sure on the T4x systems. On all of the T2x systems I have, the DC power jack is screwed down to the I/O port board and it also has two plastic clips which mount into holes on the board. The other end of the jack terminates in a small connector which plugs into the motherboard. So it is fairly easy to replace. I just searched the archives here I found these three threads:

Each one of them says that the T41 uses the same system as the T2x.
edit: You may want to get a copy of the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your system. This will give you a good idea on how to take the system apart:
HMM for ThinkPad T40/p, T41/p, T42/p
