T42 won't shut down; nhc? ati? power manager?

#1 Post by Paul Unger » Wed Aug 08, 2007 11:24 am

Running on battery my T42 (-3uu; XP SP2) won't shut down. It goes to a black screen; fan spins (faster as it heats up after a few minutes); thinklight works (Fn + PgUp); 'power' and 'battery' leds are lit; but it will only turn off by holding the power button for a few seconds . . . I'm running nhc (undervolting, dynamic switching, fan control, and ati powerplay) and troubadix's modded catalyst driver, if knowing that helps . . . Actually, just to help (?) w/ trouble-shooting, when I try to shut down nhc (right click > exit on the tray icon) my computer goes to the same black screen 'hang'. Anyway, any hints? similar experiences? I hate 'hard' kills . . .

Try uninstalling one by one, first nhc, next the modded driver..

You can have 3 apps working with the same thing: setting power play at ATI panel, at Power Manager and NHC.

Another point: go to event viewer and see the warning and error messages.

maybe this is a stability issue? how bout if you raise the voltages to the CPU and see if the same problem exists?

Well, I did it in a different order, but I fixed my problem. NHC is a higher priority to me than the modded ATI driver, so I got rid of the latter. Voila--problem gone. Unfortunately, now I don't have all the nifty options that the ATI Catalyst driver provided. Ah well, I can always underclock the GPU from w/in NHC (although PowerPlay remains greyed out in NHC). Thanks for your help.

Does anyone can undervolt/underclock their GPU FireGL T2 on T42p's using the latest video driver from Lenovo and NHC?

I disable POWERPLAY in Windows Display Settings, but in NHC even though I slide the bar all the way to the left to be Battery Optimized the values
ATI Core Clock: 317.25MHz
ATI Memory clock: 202.50MHz

doesn't lowers.

Any ideas, should I use other driver.
