Cannot read DVD+R

Hi,

i have a thinkpad r40 (gcu-2722) and a HL-DT-DT RW/DVD GCC-4240N combo drive. the problem is that it wont read dvd+r's
i was wondering if there a firmware hack that will all this drive to view these dvds.....
