Best of both worlds, the other way around? T61 with Flexview?
Best of both worlds, the other way around? T61 with Flexview?
So far, we've always tried to get a T61 14.1" motherboard into a T60p 15" w/ an IPS screen. Hmm...What about getting a 14.1" T61, and not even bother with the motherboard at all??? I just bought two BOE-Hydis screens, brand spanking new, to upgrade one other T60p I bought, and one that is either waiting for a buyer, or to accomplish something like this!???
In this scenario, we'd "only" have to replace the LCD's, but can take advantage of everything the new T61/p series has to offer while looking at a gorgeous screen...What say you, guys???

Hi Crunch,
Very interesting idea!
I own a T60 with Philips/LG Flexview (see signature).
Quite happy with it. But I believe a T60/61 with BOE-Hydis panel seems to be much better than Philips/LG IPS. I've never been able to compare these panels side-by-side.
Have you purchased two 15" BOE-Hydis panels? I'm a bit confused because T61 is not offered in 15" size. How could this 15"screen fit in a 14.1" panel? Cutting?
Do you believe that I could replace my 15" Philips Philips/LG panel by a 15" BOE-Hydis version? And what's the price of the BOE-Hydis panel?
Cheers,
Marie-Anne

Hi Marie-Anne,
Well, I kind of lucked out with my fairly recently purchased T60p purchase. It simply had a BOE-Hydis IPS panel as part of its configuration, and as I kept wondering why it was such an awesome screen, I did some digging, and found the company's website, etc. And yes, I have seen the BOE-Hydris IPS with a "regular" IPS panel from LG, and while the difference is noticeable mostly with the brightness, and additional wide viewing angles, which are not really necessary, I'd be perfectly happy with an IPS panel of ANY sort on a T61p, but that's not in the card it looks like. I recently bought two BOE-Hydis panels, and would like to just pop that baby up on a T61 14.1" for the 4:3 format.
Previously, the idea was, and still is, to put a 14.1" (again 4:3) T61 motherboard into a T60p with an IPS panel. I figured the other way around might be a little easier!? Hmm...

The reason why people are using the T60p chassis for the upgrade is so that things like the display hinge posts line up properly. You might be able to hook up the 15" panel to the T61p (in the 14" chassis) but the hinge would not be able to bolt down and so the machine wouldnt be very usable as a laptop.
I think the most economical way to go would be to aquire an UXGA T60p, a T61p motherboard off of ebay, and then a Penryn revision CPU from a vendor, as we know those are compatible as well
If you are happy with the result machine, you could also resell the T60p motherboard to recoup some of the costs.

That's EXACTLY what I want to do. However, are the audio ports, PCMCIA/Express card slots, USB ports, etc. all in the same position? I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest way to do it, but the best way. I bought two S-IPS screens off ebay recently to upgrade another T60p I got a killer deal on. Now wouldn't it be something to abscond the current mobo, and gently install a T61 one, and, as you correctly pointed out, immediately upgrade it to a Penryn processor?? What a killer Thinkpad that would be.win32asmguy wrote:I think the most economical way to go would be to aquire an UXGA T60p, a T61p motherboard off of ebay, and then a Penryn revision CPU from a vendor, as we know those are compatible as well![]()
