Laptops With Certain NVidia Chips Failing
"An estimated 18 million laptops with NVidia G84 and G86 graphics chips sold in the past one and a half years are experiencing high failure rates. Various laptop models from multiple manufacturers (Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and others) are affected. NVidia blames it on bad chip packaging causing thermal failure. BIOS updates that turn the laptop fan on more frequently or permanently have been released by Dell and HP. The cynical interpretation is that this is likely to only delay the problem until the warranty has expired."Source: Slashdot
Are there any ThinkPad models using these GPUs (NVidia G84 and G86)?

I've heard this but only affecting Dells laptops. I didn't knew it was also regarding Lenovo's laptops.
It's a shame, but who knows, maybe there's also poor thermal conductivity that leads the GPU to overheat. We haven't seen so much horror stories on this overheating issues on the T61 series, right

NVIDIA G84 and G86 GPUs which are used in GeForce 8400M and 8600M graphics cards.
As far as i know there are no thinkpads that use thease GPU's...
just did a quick google serch on this and there are alot of web sites saying the same thing.
Some sites saying most (if not ALL) laptops with this GPU will fail...
I know Dell use this card.
Sounds like theres going to be LOTS of part systems out there .....
