Re: ThinkPad T410 + i7 quad = possible?

410 and 420s are very cheap here as shell chassis... ie. complete minus hdd and charger so you need to buy an ssd, say $50 for a 240gb and say $10 for the hdd cover and caddy and then say $30 for a charger... hopefully it has a battery with some charge, even 2/3rd charge is ok and then your skills w...

1,400 x 900 vs 1,600 x 900 is a pile of garbage anyway given they all used mediocre screens.

Win10 has always complained big time if you change whatever program assocations from whatever was stock out of the box. Even changing something to Foxit etc. has it complaining. On a new laptop, I just installed Win7 and now use Opera and Firefox. I didnt install Chrome since there's no need. CHrome...

I used one of these machines for a long time as a system engineer maybe 15yrs ago? The machine was nothing special, P3-1000, 512mb, 120gb hdd etc. Running XP Office XP/2003 and the usual apps at the time. I think it had 2 usb over the single usb on the older units. Also I beleive it has the S3 Savag...

Are you guys using it for Win10 etc?

As far as I'm concerned its always been worth it. I havent ever used a 32 bit o/s since XP. I personally moved to XP 64 bit back in the day and then straight to WIn7 64 after a small dalliance with Vista 64. Its not about the loss of 1gb on a 4gb system but its to provide compatibility with 64 bit s...

Good god that looks like a real full sized almost C-130 cockpit. I was in the Tesla showroom today and I feel like the Model 3 is just too small for me. With the seat at the lowest I feel like I'm too close to the roof and my head is brushing the roof in the back. I refer you to our esteemed site hosts. THey say this a lot: Read the HMM. Its the bible for any system you own. There's no reason Win10 wouldnt be perfect on an x200 given there isnt much exotic hardware inside. Laptops used to be very expensive. I have a few T20/21 etc. in the garage and as noted, they are $3,699 for a base config. As much as $5k for a big build.

Cut to say 2010 and a Edge 14" was like usd $500.

I have a real soft spot for the X200. I have a bunch of these... largely P8700 4Gb 120SSD Intel 5300 etc. They run Win7 fine and you even get ok battery life if your 9 cell is anyway decent. However lots of CCFL out there and they are hell on wheels to repair... eg. my favorite x200 has an LED scree...

I think people are complacent about these things as "they dont affect me". Well the FHD mod is the biggest cost and probably not that important if you can get by with the std. 900p screen. If I was to find an exlease T430 900p model cheap enough then you still need the classic kbd which is a $50 option PLUS the t420 palmrest, I believe at least $25... plus then you need th...

Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

There's only two things that really define "Thinkpad" to me and that's the classic T400/T420 style kbd and the the Thinklight. That's it. The thing with screens is that the T60-T420 classic era is defined by fairly mediocre screens so as long as its a 14" FHD IPS panel then I'm ok. I think that Leno...

My read of this is that its more a DaaS for corporates (desktops as a service). ie. just say I'm a 75 seat SME. Traditionally I can use Windows Server and 75 copies of Win10 Pro in a domain. If I want to streamline I can go Terminal Server and 75 thin clients. Microsoft wants to manage your terminal...

It depends on how fussy you are... my best T400 has a 1,440 x 900 LED screen. These are rare.

After 10yrs I beleive the CCFL 1,200 x 800 screens now may look pretty dull and sepia.

Its a good idea to see one powered up before you buy it if possible.

I cant imagine how silly it would be for a fall creators update or whatever they want to call it, rolling down every 6 months or so.
