Re: X200 tablet fingerprint only allows one direction in Win 7
I finally figured it out! I went into my Device Manager >> Biometric Devices >> right clicked on Authen Tech >> Properties. The driver looked outdated, so I tried "Update Driver" for fun. Windows 7 actually found an updated version online, and now it's updated to v.8.1.2.56, dated 7/7/2009. Now, I c...

Windows 7 "XP Mode" kills my X200 Tablet's Intel 5100 wifi
Hi all, Whenever I run the XP Mode in my Windows 7, my X200 Tablet will have "limited availability" for the Intel 5100 wifi connection. Then, after I close out of XP Mode, I'd either have to repair the connection or restart my machine. If I use WWAN, however, it works. I have my XP Mode use "NAT" as...

X200 tablet fingerprint only allows one direction in Win 7
Hi all, I recently purchased an X200 tablet on eBay. I got the free Windows 7 upgrade from Lenovo, and everything runs smoothly (except for the 'menu' button next to the screen, where nothing happens anymore when I press it). The fingerprint reader works fine, and it even kept my prints from Vista. ...

Referring to GoofyG28's post above, I actually had the same problem, particularly when watching movies. I think it's related to the ATI video drivers from January 2008- I rolled them back, and I haven't had a "black screen of death" since. To roll back your drivers, on Windows XP Professional, go t...

I don't have much to contribute to the investigation or resolution of the black-screen-of-death issue. I just want to say THANK YOU for being so aggressive and proactive in working together to at least (hopefully) convince Lenovo that this is a very serious issue. I thought I was alone on this. My T...

When all of you say your thinkpads "freeze", do you mean everything on the screen freezes? What happens to me is that I lose all visuals. My screen is blank, but the LCD backlight is still on. One time (and only once), however, instead of a dark screen, all the content on my LCD froze and looked all...

I did everything you guys suggested, but just now, I got the black screen AGAIN. I can't do anything once it's dark (there's some back light, still), except to hard boot. :( Maybe I should just move on and get a T61. Is this a board issue or a hard drive issue? I already had my board replaced under ...

Update: IBM refused to fix the problem. If the stains are indeed dust, they could at least clean it for me. Instead, they blame me for "dropping" my T60!!!! They claim that there was evidence of it, and that the LCD was "cracked". OMG! I've never dropped my baby EVER. It was going to be $700...

Thanks for everyone's input, but I fear that for me, it's not the GPU or video related. My 'blackout' can occur at any time with no warning. In fact, it happened last night. There has been plenty of posts on this forum about dust/hair inside LCD screens ... it is impossible to miss them on flexview screens ... T60 crashes... "black" screen of death
Okay, it's not really a black image. The LCD is in fact turned off. This has been happening every several days (at the worst) or so for months now. I would be doing something, and BAM! The screen is off, the hard drive doesn't run, but the light indicators at the bottom of my LCD are still lit (wifi...

This is truly bizarre. I have two stains that look like streaks of lightning. The fascinating thing is, they're on the inside! I've noticed the top right one for months now. I didn't call Cust Serv because I'd have to ship my laptop in for repair/replacement, and I need my laptop practically everyda...

Yes, the hard drive will work in the T60. The 945 chipset supports SATA I (and you can plug SATA II into SATA I) and also the 945 mobile chipset supports many SATA II features. But, the 3.0Gb/s transfer rate is not one of them. Darn, so there's really no advantage to getting the Toshiba SATA II dri...

Can the T60 run SATA II hard drives (3.0GB/s)?
Preface: I've had my T60 15" since Feb of 2006. Best purchase of my life! I've been reading the forum on secondary hard drives. I just placed my purchase for the Ultrabay SATA HD adapter, so I can put my current T60 100GB SATA hard drive into the adapter. I was looking at prices on NewEgg for 160GB ...

Lenovo are now recalling a number of Sony batteries - however a check showed my ultrabay batteries as not part of the recall. I remain convinced they're faulty. Status=red, 50% capacity in a month -- not right. I'm really hoping my slim battery will get recalled, like my main T60 laptop battery. My...

The best "repair" kit for plastic is a soldering gun! Use one with a sharp tip and use some scrap plastic that you can fuse to the existing structure. With a little practice, you can do very precise work and achieve the result you want. After the adventure with the soldering tip, you can "smooth" t...

Goofy, do you think it was a defective button, are you heavy on the trackpad button, just curious. To be honest, I think it's a cheap design on Lenovo/IBM's part. FS: T60 palmrest w/ fingerprint read for 15" ($100 obo)
I have a relatively new T60 palm rest with imbedded fingerprint reader. It fits the 15" LCD models. The part number is 41V9908. I've only had the laptop for about 2 months, when the left trackpad button started getting mushy from overuse. The button clips to a metal rod underneath at two places, and...
