Re: How is the W500 quality?

My W500 experience has been one of my best with a Thinkpad ever! It is a fast and cool running laptop on Windows 7 and the expansive screen real estate is a very useful. I paid under $200 for a fairly new condition W500 T9600 (battery cycle was in the 40s) with port replicator 8GB rams/320GB hd. It ...

Re: T400/T500/W500 Testimonies

I don't know...T410/420 and T/W510/520 don't seem to suffer from these problems. That is what I wondered too. Although the shorter, wider lids of the 510/520 models have less vertical leverage and pressure on the hinges. I think it is the sheer weight of the T500/W500 lids that leads to hinge/cage ...

Yeah it looks like 232A will have to do. Anyone used this drive? is it okay? or rather is it worth $100+?

Re: T400/T500/W500 Testimonies

I've had mine 2 weeks and even with the broken hinge/cage and a very dim Samsung WUXGA screen it is one of the best laptops I've owned. It is fast and very cool. One of the coldest laptops I've ever ran in my life. Best of all it is easy to modify the hardware and add on and take off stuff that you ...

Which BluRay Ultrabay Combo Writer Drive for a W500?

Trying to decide what to buy here. It seems the cheaper of the two drives, the UJ-260, is faster and better but may not work on the W500 since it is an enhanced. What should I buy? Thanks. $125 Serial Ultrabay Slim Matshita/Panasonic UJ-232A Write Speed: 2x BD-R, 2x BD-RE, 2x BD-R DL, 2x BD-RE DL, 8x...

I think that LG display is a WXGA and not a WUXGA. I've been googling and searching and can only find the LG panels in WXGA and the Samsungs in the WUXGA. I did find a couple of Sharp WUXGA displays but it definitely does not look plug and play at all. http://www.panelook.com/LP154WU1-TLA2_LG%20Dis...

Re: What is more reliable with better specs- t500/w500

There are two different WUXGA displays used in the W500. A LG and a Samsung. The LG reaches 220 nits when new (measured with X-Rite) and the Samsung 170 nits when new. (according to spec sheet) The SHARP display beats both of them with 250 nits when new. (measured with X-Rite) I have seen all three...

I just picked up the most powerful of the W500 family last week, a 4062-4HU , after reading this thread. I will say I am very impressed with the smooth and cool performance of the W500. My unit has 8GB of RAM and the 512MB video specs so everything runs smoothly as expected. The W500 is also one of ...

I just did this job and it was super easy: Tips for anyone attempting this: 1. Before you even begin removing fru's you should buy a bag of Thinkpad replacement screws as a sound insurance policy against losing screws during the work. I found one off eBay for $2.99 that had all the T60/T61 screws an...

Re: Just got a T61 8889-02U T7500 sxga! What to upgrade in 2012?

I have 8 gigs on my WinXP SP3 and I don't at all think my RAM is wasted. Running Intel 320 SSD and FancyCache (free stufff so far - a trial of 180 days that can be prolonged). The program allows to use the so-called "unmanageable RAM" as a disk cache. Allocated 5 gigs of "invisible memory" as disk ...

I've been plagued with this issue since February on my T60 XP SP3 . I updated everything on April 1st including the BIOS and I'm still having the issues with that. Is replacing the T61 sxga FRUs- Lid & Base difficult? *pics*

There are two things I want to replace on my recently acquired T61. 1. The bottom shell: The hard drive's bay cover is loose because the ledge where the cover screw holds onto has cracked completely off. That bit seems to be contiguous with the entire plastic bottom shell so I assumed I have to repl...

OMG! I just was thinking the same thing. I just ordered a T61 8889-02U and noticed the screen brightness, clarity and colors were above and beyond better than my T60 2008-VEP. I just assumed that the T61 had better LCD/LED tech for the screen than the older T60 series. Can anyone confirm that the T6...
