Find someone with the same Thinkpad you had, get a spare HDD and use your discs. This is the only way I can think of to do what you are requesting.

I also highly recommend Len at AbsoluteRaleigh. He can repair it for you and won't rip you off. We've bought all of our Thinkpads from him for our school and any issue was promptly taken care of, in or out of warranty!

I also have a T30...too bad about the connection for the HD...just keep wiggling it I guess. About the USB 2.0...there is no way to modify your TP to add this. Buy a PC card that has USB2.0 on it. I bought one from eBay that also has Firewire....I am well pleased with it and it works very well.

Don't know however if the discs would work in reverse (A T20 or a higher numbered T m...

Might need to just open it up and blow out all the crud that's built up inside. These TP's do get somewhat hot but don't have the smell that you describe. Good luck.

Now, it's hard to know what the original question is....there is such a thing as DVD cd...such as DVD movie formatted files burned on a CD (also calleed a "mini dvd"). YES, this is possible, but you are limited to about 15 or 16 minutes of DVD quality on a CD. I often do this with the music video's ...

True, but you will go back to an earlier Service Pack version and have to upgrade again after the reinstall. If you have any programs that are dependent on your current SP version you better uninstall them and be ready to reinstall them again. At least this has been my experience. If you can't get i...

If it's a panasonic/matshita, it may not read a +R disc...different ones do different things. Do a search for your drive on the internet (google) and you should find out its capabilities. If you don't know exactly which drive you have, look in Device manager, under CD/DVD. Good luck

Just do a fresh install of W2K on the HDD and then go to the IBM site and download the drivers. Works very well and you don't end up with the IBM fluff. I believe too that IBM has a software installer program, so with that, it will install the correct drivers, utilities for your system.
