I love how on the shop Lenovo website it now says: "The notebook doesn't have to survive, just the data." well...once again, I get the point...but would be nice if the laptop was able to survive too. That said, if you watch the "crash test" video ( http://www.lenovovision.com/lv2/mediaplayer.php?fid...

I don't like this ad and what is suggested in there! That's completely unrealistic to me. Under water? Smashed against a wall? Thanks for the info, I greatly appreciate it. So basically, other than loosing a few mins of battery life, there is really no disadvantage nor advantage to using low density? As far as the refresh rate being higher with low density, wouldnt that technically mean the system would be slightly faster w...

Being a student...I'd recommend a pre-owned or refurbished X-series if you will be taking your computer with you to class. I have an HP, and it can do everything (thanks to the Dual Core CPU, 2gb Ram & 160gb of storage)....but its heavy. The HPs are cheaply made. But in general, they are also cheap ...

Anyone see the Asus eeePC? it may stop my s30/31 craving
So Asus is planning on comming out with a 7" and a 10" notebook, starting at $200 for the 7" and $250 for the 10"!! I still drool over the s30/31....and even though they are 600mhz and completely outdated in this CoreDuo Vista world, I love the size and design. Seems like this Asus may crave my urge...

I do...sometimes. I bought a generic stand/cooler off eBay about a year ago for the HP I was using at the time. It was a little small for the 17" HP. It fits my X30 perfectly though. It basically a bent piece of plexiglass which has a 1" or so rise in the back, with 2 fans underneath for cooling. It...

I'm not surprised that in the end, its just a standard, leather covered ThinkPad. That said, I think you're all missing the point. Look at all the free publicity Lenovo is getting out of this! The reserve edition may get a few people who otherwise would not have considered a ThinkPad, to visit Lenov...

High vs Low density RAM? (X30)
Is there an advantage or disadvantage when it comes to the density? What about system performance? or does it really not matter in the end and what matters is the total amount of RAM/memory installed? Can you use one low density and one high density module in the same system? would they have to be t...

I have never paid nor will I for a codec! I give a second vote for VLC. I have also used the K-lite codec packs for years. I can't remember if I installed the K-lite pack on my HP Vista machine, but VLC worked well for me with Vista and XP. Link for K-lite packs: http://www.codecpackguide.com/klmcod...

Thanks for the quick reply. No, I did not remove all the drivers. My point about removing things like WMP has more to do with the fact that I never never ever use it, so why not just take it out. From what I read, Defender slows the system down too...so I took a chance, and removed that too. Same wi...

I just bought a new battery (generic off eBay). I get over 5.5 hours on my X30 using NHS. Any way I can run the no-1802 hack without a floppy or cd?
My fear came true, when I tried to install an Atheros mini-PCI wifii card in my X30, I got the dreaded 1802 msg.
Since I don't have an external cd or floppy, is there a way I can run the no-1802 hack?
Anyway I can run it off a bootable USB thumb drive?
Thanks for any help.

I'll let you know next week. I order an Atheros g+ miniPCI card from eBay. I should have it by next Friday. Supposidly with the X30 there should be no problem. According to Microsoft, 800mhz CPU is minimum...
According to Microsoft, they say an 800mhz CPU is minimum to run Vista. Which probably means you can run it on a 500mhz machine provided you disable a lot of the graphical features. Due to all the graphical stuff, ram is the thing you'll need much. Which is where the older X machines (x2x) might hav...

What is a s30/31 really worth (in the US)? Should I buy it?
Long story short, I wanted a small, ultra portible computer. I bought a used X30 and I am very happy with it. I've been tempted to buy an S30/31 for a while, but due to the difficulty getting one, and price, I went with the X30. My girlfriends sister is going to Japan for a month. I'm tempted to hav...

Anyone have an x30/31 Hardware Maintenance Manual "hmm." Can you email it to me? Do you have a link other than IBM's? Can a TP 240 use 512mb of ram? (i.e disable the onboard ram)
If you disable (i.e. remove a chip) of the onboard ram from a 240x, you can enable the system to use all of a 256mb low denisty sodim. So since the TP240 uses the 440mx (or 440dx) which are rated for a max of 1gb of ram...if you disable an onboard chip, can you then get the system to recognize and u...

If you can test the batteries and let me know how long they last...if the 2 batteries you have hold a decent charge, I may be intereted. Honestly, $200 is a bit much for a 400mhz machine.
