Re: speedwise is Windows 7<Windows 8
much faster, quicker boot even on a nearly 4 year old W700. I do hate the new "metro" interface for a non touch device but i installed classic shell which works well and gives you back the nice old start menu, but can still use new style if you wish. impressive speeds, stupid decision to remove star...

i had this 2 x with a seagate 500gb momentus 7200 rpm drive. both times it seemed that after doing some upgrades (windows, lenovo) all of a sudden, while running odd things happend, like last time it could not find the blue tooth software, even though it was just unpacked, this time Symantec AV said...

W500 and docking issues
I have someone who i just upgraded to Vista SP2. He had and continues to have "hang" issues when docking. Doesn't even boot sometimes. I remember in xp there were hardware profiles, does Vista still have this and can they be deleted and then recreated? any ideas if this does not exist.. please advise

Can you upgrade a W701 to add digitizer/pantone sensor?
We have a high end W701 but it does not have the wacom digitizer and color sensor. From what Lenovo tells me you need that to do the Pantone color sensor with software. 60Y4938 ** this part number can be purchased and I opened up the W701 (took off the palmrest) and there is the connector on the mot...

have not tried that, its odd i think there might be a problem with the disk controller. on some of the disks i can't even install the toolbox to test it, the drive passed the bios test. not sure how else to test

Re: Sata 1.5 vs Sata 3.0
We use in both situations in the bay and in the std as an upgraded drive. Never had a problem before, last time i remember an issue was with PATA drives in T43 you'd get a bios issue and have to bypass it with ESC key.

Sata 1.5 vs Sata 3.0
We are having issues with T61p/T60 with new drives from Western Digital and Seagate. they do not seem to work in these models. I have searched and found info that you can use a jumper on 2 pins but that also did not work. Interestingly we found that in Vista 64 on a t61p the system would not see or ...

Re: Win7 Enhanced Experience, have you actually experienced it?
I never do that. I leave the build on but remove things I don't want or need, access connections, touchpad utility etc. the new builds don't really have a lot of junk. the EE does help in some times such as boot, suspend, resume and hibernate. i only do clean builds when it did not come with win 7. ...

Upgraded W500 Vista64 to Win7 64, s partition ?'s
so the s partition is bigger than it needs to be. i can make it small, but does anyone know what i can remove? there are many directories which appear to be the "vista" partition from the earlier build. There are hidden partitions from win7. Anyone know what can safely be removed from the S partition?

Re: Tips & Tricks to Speed up Windows 7 (your own build)
Link to the Phoenix Bios Video: http://www.viddler.com/explore/engadget/videos/645/2.033/ I thought this was very interesting except it appears that it is a new PC3 bios (not sure what that means). They mention briefly that they "replaced" the bios on the 2 systems they have there. I do have RAID co...

Tips & Tricks to Speed up Windows 7 (your own build)
I thought it might be interesting to put all suggestions to speed improvements in Windows 7 in one area. I have Windows 7 64 bit on W700 Quadcore w 4gb ram, 320gb 7200RPM drive. I have these benchmarks: Boot AFTER "starting windows" is 36 seconds (to fingerprint login ) Shutdown 23 seconds Suspend &...

I am running Windows 7 RTM 64 bit. All works very well except every once in a while i get a condition where some processes seem to take over the cpu. Its a quad core so it really should not bog down. I think it has to do with SMC.EXE from Symantec's Endpoint Protection. Even running unmanaged and th...

Spoke too soon. So I downloaded it and read it, before there were separate installs for x86 and x64, this states its one huge file (odd but oh well) so i downloaded and tried to install it. it shows "searchin for updates" then tells me its not compatible with my computer? have you installed on Windo...

using the port replicator port for sound to external speakers and you get nothing, the front audio out/headphones does work as well as the built in speakers. So far I have the clean Win 7 build and NO lenovo drivers other than the nvidia.

Only issue that is a pain right now is there is no suitable Video driver so I can't run Aero, I only get std vga adapter to load.
