Seconded. I didn't need any other spacers or the like when I fitted a SSD in my X220 a few weeks ago.

Re: Reliable SSD drives for the X220

Are there any EVO users who've applied the firmware update and found it's solved this issue?

I'll be buying a SSD over the weekend and had looked at the EVO, but am a little wary after reading this thread.

Re: If you had to use another brand of computer what would it be

George, I thought it'd be more difficult to adjust to less pixels per inch than it has been. The main area where I've really noticed the difference would be in internet browsing, and the simple fact that the pages I regularly visit require more vertical scrolling. Otherwise, when it comes to word pr...

Re: If you had to use another brand of computer what would it be

Well, I ended up shelling out my money for a HP Pavilion dv7t (as it's referred to in the US). I was given an extended 3 year warranty for free, which was a nice bonus (no way would I settle for the standard 1 year) Specs are in my signature, and Windows Experience scores are as follows: Processor I...

I ran the Windows 7 RC on a HP nw8240 (comparable specs to a T43p), and loved it. Quite snappy and very useable, with readily available driver updates where needed. My new laptop (HP Pavilion dv7...I know it's not a Thinkpad, but it's surprisingly quite good IMO) will have its Windows 7 upgrade disc...

Re: Whats the best LCD or screen rez you have used?

I've found WUXGA in 15.4" to be quite good for my needs - thus for my impending new laptop purchase I'll probably go with Full HD in a 16 or 17" laptop. 1600 x 900 is probably not quite good enough for me, because whilst 1600 horizontal may well be fine, the vertical resolution just doesn't float my...

Re: If you had to use another brand of computer what would it be

The Studio XPS (both 13 and 16) are known to run quite hot though. Does the DV6 have models with FullHD screens? The ones I was looking at had 1600 x 900 - so not quite ideal, but I think I would be able to manage, and consider buying an external Full HD monitor if I felt that more real estate was ...

I'm on the lookout for a new laptop right now...for the first time my main machine will be purchased brand new. Basically my options at the moment are a Dell Studio 15 and Studio XPS 16 (both configurable via Dell, of course), and probably one of the upper spec 16 inch HP Pavilion dv6. The online re...

WTB: Z61t **PLAN ON HOLD FOR A WHILE...**

Just keen to see if anybody has one of these machines that they are looking to sell. After being a single laptop, non-TP user for a couple of months now, I'm keen to have something just a little bit smaller to take with me to work. I have been toying with the idea of a T60/61p to replace my current ...

When "hidden gems" are mentioned I always think of Z series...had a Z60m recently and was absolutely floored how much better its LCD looked when compared to a W500 side-by-side...wasn't even funny. And on the inside, it's a T43 without the SATA-to-PATA-to-2010-error-nonsense...very, very sweet. +1....

I'm interested in getting some info on that X1. Not sure if you'd be able to send it overseas, but there are a few X1s on eBay here in Australia and I'd be ikeen to know what the build quality is and the like. PM sent.

That's too bad. I've been checking the prices of the 2140 almost weekly on hp.com and noticed this afternoon that the starting price for the pre-configured models had just dropped $100US. I'll have to check that out. My sister's rather keen on an artsy version of the Mini 1000 (which I think looks awful aesthetically), so if I can find when the 1366x768 version of the 2140 gets here, I'll try and persuade her onto that. I'm happy to do so, I just wanted to make sure that someone was interested before I spent time making a list... The likelihood is that if you make the list along with asking prices (with an OBO attached in case you're not sure how much you should get for them), you'll get people interested. The fac...

Re: Please see Tim Cook's comments about Netbook

I chose "small screen", although small screen per se isn't really the problem. Rather, it's the low resolution that renders the great majority of netbooks useless for me (and many others). I only know of 3 exceptions, which have 1280x768 or higher res: the HP 2133, the HP 2140, and the Sony P serie...

Even though your friend is asking for offers, he should give you an asking price so that the listing will be in line with the Marketplace rule regarding stating a price for each FS listing.

WTB: Disc 1 of the T42/p Recovery disc set.

In the process of some repair work on the family's T42p, Disc 1 of my recovery disc set was broken.
