I've got a broken G555, with a working screen.
(video chip is bad.)
Will the screen fit a G550, assuming sizes are the same?
There is a G550 on the bay, works but has a bad screen.

Re: G555 lid on a G550?
G550 and G560 are different models. They may have parts in common, but I wouldn't count on it. Screens themselves might fit between them, but unless you have pictures, I again wouldn't try. But, would a G555 lid fit better on the 550 or the 560? (Or, is the G555 the AMD version of the 550, or the 5...

I was putting off getting a G550, until I heard back. I'll wait for one to come up on Fleabay, and let you all know what happens. I'm pretty sure this one has a dead video chip, because the LEDs like they should, but no video. (On-board or external.) If this thing would fit my T60 true docking stati...

G555 lid on a G550?
Will the lid and screen from a G555 fit on a G550? (Or any other similar model?
I've got a dead G555, with a bad video chip, and would like to use the screen to fix
a G550 (or whatever I can get cheaply) with a broken screen.
Possible?
Waste of time?

Re: Battery (power) management?
It is not uncommon for batteries, especially third party, to be poorly calibrated. Usually after running them down and up a few times, as you just did, the gauge becomes more accurate. It wasn't just running them down and up that did it. Had to do the running manually, not using the software. One m...

Re: Battery (power) management?
2:01 am. It just died.
That was almost an hour, on a dead battery.
Plugged in the power cord, fired it up, and started
power manager. It's now showing 94.WH as full charge
capacity.
Interesting.

Battery (power) management?
OK, I'm running the Lenovo provided Power Manager program on one of my 4 running T60s, and it's not quite running OK. (And, it won't install on the other 3.) I started to drain the battery tonight at about 9:00 PM. It showed 0%, about 1:07 AM. It's still alive. About 1:30, I kicked the screen light ...

For most of us, we work on computers anyway.
My "desktop" isn't even in a case, but sits on 2 shelves in my desk.
It also supports 6 SATA drives internally, and 2 more with ESATA.
Plugging up another, is absolutely NO issue to me.
Oh, USB adapter, $20 or more. SATA cable, $2.99.

If you have a desktop that has extra SATA inputs, just plug the T61 HDD in. You'll need both power and SATA connections, but they're the same as 3.5 (desktop) HDDs. Power down the desktop, before hooking up the laptop HDD. They're "supposed" to be hot swappable, but power down just the same. steve

OK, after my trailer fire, (last February) where I lost EVERYTHING, I was able to get a replacement motherboard for my desktop machine (which STILL has never seen a case) and the guy sent me an 128 GB SSD for free with it. Let's just say that the speed is IMPRESSIVE, even on SATA2 speeds. I'd go wit...

Ray, it's been my experience that you can swap any keyboard from any of the T2*
series rigs, except the number will be different, on the keyboard. (A T20 k/b will say T-20
up by the power switch, but will work just fine in a T23.)
As far as switching out keys, I've found the same issues.

OK, here is a little tidbit. I recently sold a T23, and it needed the wireless card in my "keeper" T23. I had an ABC card out of a junk T40 kicking around. I've tried 4 or 5 different versions of XP, all straight XP discs, and all which have worked on other installs.
I've also tried Win7, with no good results, too.
This is with a 32 GB sd chip. Did the same with a 4 GB chip.

Re: Thank you Heaven for this IBM ThinkPad T20 - but
I don't think anyone mentioned this, but the T20 heatsink is made to use a rubber-looking spacer between the CPU and the heatsink. The T21 and T22 are a bit different, in that the heatsink will sit right on the CPU. The T20 heatsink will have a gap between the CPU and heatsink, without that rubber-l...

Where is the crack on the palmrest? If it is in the lower right, you most likely have a cracked Ultrabay holder.
Most of the T2* stuff I've seen with a crack on the palmrest there, had a broken-off bracket on the bay cover.

It's probably overheating. Clean out the fan and replace the thermal paste (preferably with AS5). R40 was made under license by Acer, they don't have the same quality as other Thinkpads. The R40 has a CMOS battery with opposite connections as any other Thinkpad. You could take a regular TP CMOS bat...

The other thing you might want to look at, is the cover for the ultrabay holder. The upper bolt on the right hinge, goes completely throu...
