Re: R400 Does not sleep
yep... done it all. I seem to remember having this problem in a previous think pad with something running that prevented sleep. It does go into hibernation however. I don't know why I keep buying think pads. I have also had it 4 days and realize it has a dead pixel...

I guess the HD is the performance boost I am looking for. Mine is 160 5400. I expect the 300/7200 will make a substantial difference

varying reports
So... it loks like the HD is the best shot at a boost of performace. I keep it clean all the time of junk buildup already, have 2 2Gb chips in there already, and it sounds like the jump from 1.83 Duo to Core2 is not the primary boost factor. I can get the HD on EPP for $xxx. Sounds like a ggod optio...

I have the rev 3 no problem. So the core2 is worth it. Should I replace HD as well?

Core Duo vs. Core 2
In deciding whether to upgrade my 1.83 Core Duo to a 2.16 Core2 processor, I am asking the difference in performance not so much the processor spreed, but the Core2 difference. It was suggested I get a 7200 RPM HD to boost performance, I can agree with that, but what about the Core2 difference. I ca...

Thanks for the input
I would tend to agree with this exception. Mine is Core Duo and the 2.1 is Core2. mY UNDERSTANDING IS THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE. iF NOT, WHAT ABOUT A 2.4? Have 3gb of RAM and a 160Gb 5400. I hear you about the HD. So... does the core 2 make the difference??

Upgrade T60 Processor?
Well its taken this long but I am ready to do it> Can get T7400 for under $200 on ebay new. How do I get instructions on replacing cpu? How much performance increase can I expect from 1.83 Core Duo to 2.16 Core 2 Duo? Is it worth it? I can get a new T61 15.4 on EPP cheap but I like the sxga+ 14" for...

the real answer
Dear Bill, Thank you for contacting Lenovo, the makers of ThinkPad and ThinkCentre products. Although this screen for the T61 is not available online it is available through our sales line at 1-866-428-4465. The reason it was pulled from the site is because it is on a 6 week wait time and so can onl...

screens
Until Lenovo gets it we will suffer with these screens, but the rest of the ThinkPad keeps us coming back. The older Z's offered the MAXBRITE screen that was greatm with the same matte finish. Why they don;t get the screen issue is beyond me. Probably because they can get away with it.....

My Point
This is what I mean. How can anybody argue with this reality. I was hoping that the 14WS would be better than the 15WS I actually gave up a T60 WS because the screen was so bad. Hoping the smaller size would compensate. If those are the specs... forget about it. Maybe next year yhey will return to a...

glossy vs. BRIGHT?
We're not even talking glossy, just bright, the MAXBRIGHT I had on my Z was not glossy, just brighter by far. It's an obvious weak point but people keep buying them because of all the other reasons that make a ThinkPad a ThinkPad. But the screens are still weak in comparison to HP for example, forge...

Well I am leaving the batery info open and do see that the UB battery is going first, so I see the idea of thresholding the discharge/charge to avoid killing it off prematurely. Thanks everyone for your help.
