Re: GNU ThickPad

I think guys from Tex design who made classic inspired keyboard are the most competent. We should assess ballpark of what is needed to get this going. - what are most important components that make a Thinkpad and what is marketable and doable - keyboard is the most important, so I would go with deve...

Bluetooth has uses for non-pc devices.

I ordered Tex Shinobi, anyone else got one?

Someone had problems with Trackpoint II scrolling on Linux. I was looking for exotic Trackpoint II layout and it's nowhere to be found.

Re: Lenono/IBM x3550 M3/M4

IBM Servers are generally louder than early HPE and Proliants post Gen6 (Westmere) are in my experience too loud for home use. The IBM are generally nicer than HPE and not restrictive on which HDDs you can use (Gen 8 and Gen 9 Proliants give no blinken lights if you don't use HPE firmware HDDs). I'm...

SK8855 keyboard PGuP/Dn not working in MacOS and BSD

I've built a ZFS NAS and last week I had to fix someone's iMac 27". For both I used SK8855 (Thinkpad USB Keyboard with Trackpoint - Classic T420 style). When in Terminal and I used Shift PgUp or Shift PgDn to scroll up in MaCOS Mojave on the iMac and now directly logged in FreeBSD (FreeNAS) console ...

The LCD (1280x800) arrived and the line is still there. https://imgur.com/7yEv7je https://imgur.com/84RKrOT So next step is the motherboard. How do I make sure LCD is LED? I know I can open it but those screw covers can become damaged. Is there another way to make sure whether new LCD is LED or CCFL...

Re: I've searched for my P50 issue(s) here but no luck...

P50 is late. I remember T540p having problems (came with Win8) when I tried 7. It would not always wake up from sleep. With 10 the sleep and other things work. So I would suggest to use Windows 10 (if you can't accomplish your taks on LInux which is the best OS at the moment :) ) 1 and 3 - try makin...

Re: NMB + Coca Cola

Old keyboards are way better wrt to spill. I killed only one and broter killed the one on his T61 but he spilled entire drink on. My T540p is on it's 3d keyboard and it takes only a few sips to kill several keys. And yes I killed the keyboard with Coca Cola this year too.

1) TrackPoint is messed up on most distros I have used. Middle-click always randomly pastes things. It's very annoying but I've been too lazy to actually see if there was a fix.
If it happens in Firefox go in about:config (URL bar) and find middlemouse.paste, set it to false.

Never tried Debian, just Zorin, Ubuntu and Kali, and I would never use OS in Serbian language. My first experience with Win and Office in Serbian was awful, wasn't able to find anything. Not to mention that some of translations were really ridiculous. LOL. That's what you get with the brain-drain o...

Re: Looking for a devil's advocate: why SHOULDN'T I move to Linux completely ?

It was probably Suse 9.3. It was pay version and I remember online friend setting me up with ftp so I could download it in 2005. Suse 9.3 was my first Linux which I was then dual-booting on my desktop. I always tried Linux on my Thinkpads but in time of 60-100GB HDDs dual booting was not realistic. ...

Re: Looking for a devil's advocate: why SHOULDN'T I move to Linux completely ?

I bought T420s to be my Linux machine because I administer a few servers and teach entry level Linux course here and there. I decided to go with openSUSE because I prefer KDE over Gnome and Suse is one of, if not the best KDE distro. Another advantage is that under the hood stuff in Suse Leap comes ...

T540p does not have thinklight. I replaced trackpad with 3-button but I got the cheap knockoff, so no more gestures. I have the trackpad disabled. The X61 tablet also doesn't have thinklight.

Re: Whether T420 at above AUD$100 is valuable 7 yrs on?

How expensive is shipping to Australia? I bought T400 lid from USA to Europe and the shipping cost around 20$. I recommend T420s though it runs hot as it can be upgraded to FHD. Now that I switched to Intel only it runs cooler than nVidia only - haven't bothered with Bumblebee - the 420s is my Linux...

The problem with T25 is that it lacks other Thinkpad "features" which are: - easy to repair with cheap parts available - easy to upgrade to something familiar without need for readjustment. I remember when I upgraded from A21p to T42p and no one noticed I have the new laptop (which was a good thing ...

I once cloned drive with Windows 7 to UEFI (Not a Thinkpad) machine and used RDP after install to download USB 3.0 drivers. You can install Win7 on very late hardware with some tricks and if you look there are probably isos with integrated USB 3.0 drivers (just assuming based on how people during la...

Win7 image backup consists of folder with lattest VHD-like drive and zips containing differentials for previous backup copies. You can't tell one computer to use another's image, but you can back up multiple computers to same drive. You can also add more drives to the backup and it will use the conn...
