Old keyboards are way better wrt to spill. I killed only one and broter killed the one on his T61 but he spilled entire drink on. My T540p is on it's 3d keyboard and it takes only a few sips to kill several keys. And yes I killed the keyboard with Coca Cola this year too.

Seems like bad cable or something else not connected. Can you buy cheap replacement cable? (I would start here as it costs the least probably)

T540p does not have thinklight. I replaced trackpad with 3-button but I got the cheap knockoff, so no more gestures. I have the trackpad disabled. The X61 tablet also doesn't have thinklight.
