Re: a new age for my frankenpad T601 X9000, w7 pro to W10 pro

Probably a bit late to help but I find that W10 loads its own drivers and that is all that is necessary. I steer clear of ThinkVantage bloatware and use iobit's DriverBooster if I want to check for later drivers. I have loaded the W7 video drivers in the past to try and improve the VGA resolution an...

Re: unusual problem after clean install win7 on W530

What I do when I am in a situation like yours is first to turn off firewall and AV to see if they are interfering. Its always worth trying another browser as RBS says. Or if I suspect a drivers issue and get desperate enough I run Driver Booster, the free version, as this will always find some later...

Re: Optical Mouse in Win 98SE on T22

I can supply a W98SE cd if you need it . Getting an optical mouse to work on W98 should be easy unless your mouse is of a recent vintage.
Or just put XP on it it is a much more stable OS on the T2x or indeed anything.

Re: Win7, 8.1, or 10 for new nvidia 570 frankenpad?

My experience is positive with W10. That means that it instals and works NOT that I like it. I have it locked down using winaerotweaker to stop it updating and spying. However I use dual boot with XP and this works very well on the web for almost all sites by using the last version to work with XP o...

You might be able to load the manufacturers W98 drivers for the mouse if it is a branded one, Logitech for example supplied W98 drivers at the time.

Apart form the LED behaviour it sounds like it could be the HDD at end of life. You could read the SMART date for clues or boot from a Linux CD to prove the hardware is working.

With an internal wifi card in place of the modem with 2 antennas in the lid and palmrest, CD/floppy combo drive, Cardbus adapters for USB2 and gigabyte internet. Re: Win 7 Audio Driver For T23?

+1 for running W7. I was happy with its performance when I was using T23s but only when using an SSD via the necessary adapter. Some opined I was wasting my time when I posted about it at the time. The SSD use is is still reflected in my signature ! I am almost certain that the sound did work but I ...

Disk caddy and rails

I am in the UK and I ordered two of these caddies from Shengen but find that the rubber rails are so flimsy that as a result they are unusable . I do a lot of HDD swapping between machines and need rubber rails that stay in place when removed and when being slid back in. I am reluctant to get more f...

I am a user too on Wins 7 and 10. SOLD: T23 in v good condition WiFi built in

Bit of a long shot this but I have too many T20 and T23s and in a recent clearout found a nice condition T23 with native Wifi with no cracks in the plastics anywhere. As I reckon this makes it a bit unusual I thought I would offer it for sale on here. I used to use it with a mSata dual boot with XP ...

But I'd rather have the T2x LCD cover antenna kit (= LCD-bezel for the wifi lid: 46L4910 ). Been looking for one for ages! I have two. But in complete working T23s with native wifi that I would sell complete but not break for parts if that is of any interest. One has a perfect keyboard bezel too. Th...

Re: Possible hard drive failure on ThinkPad 770 after installing Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management?

Can you connect the HDD to another machine to check it out for bad sectors and any SMART data clues. I used to use some DOS tools on a dos boot floppy in W98 days to check HDDs out. A couple come to mind: PC Doctor disk tool and HDRescue. There was an IBM disk fitness tool(DFT) as well. It might jus...

Re: T60 recommended SSD

I am a bit late to this discussion as you have already bought your SSD. But if you are using XP then the best buy is a Samsung because the supplied Magician software includes an optimisation routine that performs Trim for you on an XP setup. I have a couple of T6Xs that run XP and I run the program ...

Re: Uncorrectable Hardware Error Blue Screen

A T2600 would give you a bit of a speed boost so give that a try, but an SSD would speed it up much more.
You might need to load fresh Intel drivers to fix that BSOD with the T7400.

Good solid Thinkpads the T6x models.

USB2 twin adapters for the PC card slot of the 'inside' variety you seek used to be available so have a look on eBay. Also the express card twin slot USB3 adapters do work, I have several in use, I am sure that triple ones are available too.

Re: Disk drive password

Which SSD model is it exactly? What exactly happens when you try to unset the password? Does it say that the password is wrong or gives some other error? Its a Samsung Evo 850 500gb. There is no error. The option in the Bios to change the User password is greyed out. I am wondering if this is speci...

Re: Disk drive password

Thanks for the github link. Maybe that will be of some use if the worst happens. But generally the bios will not even recognise a passworded disk without the correct password so I suppose there must be another way of getting to the disk. But no, this SSD will only allow its password to be unset on t...

Disk drive password

Anyone else noticed this ? I have a Samsung SSD that has a password set and it works fine for security in whichever T61 I fit it into. Re: SSD questions

For your XP machine I think Samsung Evo SSDs are the best bet because they come with the Magician software which allows you to run the optimization or TRIM routine to clean up the drive to keep it up to speed. They are amongst the best of the SSDs anyway. I run a Plextor mSata on an XP Tpad because ...

I have decided to try another T61 for a while to see what happens as far as the issues it has. This will at least tell me if it is indeed hardware related. Re: Booting issue

I don't think the BIOS can get corrupted, but the CMOS battery that stores the BIOS' settings can become corrupt. When the BIOS does get corrupted, it is most likely a corrupt BIOS image that has been flashed. That is a very rare case though. I never came across this problem, but I am guessing that...

The image I mean is the XP flag with the loading bar. Not sure about Win 10 as it is used only in desperation and very in frequently. To keep it simple I am assuming therefore it is just XP . Whilst it could well be a driver issue I guess, as far as I can see all the correct drivers are loading incl...
