WiFi 802.11n on T520 and T530

My T520 and two T530s have the Intel N 6205 adapter fitted. When I look at the connected speed using 5GHz they show connected at 300Mbps. However when I connect using 2.4GHz band connection speed is only 54Mbps. Signal strength is strong as the Router is 5 ft away. If I connect my T61 with an Athero...

Sounds like speaker damage if the line output jack is sounding ok. Can you use the balance control to see if its just one or both speakers.

Re: T61 USB Port error

Afraid I have no solution as the port and bus info seem to be what the bios reports and this is beyond my knowledge. When I plug a USB key into my Windows T61 it does not show those particular port or bus numbers numbers anywhere using msinfo32 or using the UsbDriveInfo tool in USBDLM. Does it make ...

Re: T601 - Dim Screen advice

Hi everyone, I'll do an update because I've found the source of the problem and "fixed" it. Unfortunately, I tried replacing the display cable, the inverter and even the screen itself and had no luck, which meant only one thing. Somehow, presumably taking out and putting back in the display cable, ...

The joy of Thinkpads. Suggest to reseat everything you might have disturbed or even touched. Possibly unlock and reseat the CPU and check for any missing screws lying on the mobo as well.

I use what is best described as an electric screwdriver/drill with a torque setting, the sort of battery driven type that builders use. They come with a set of driver bits just choose the one that is the best fit and start with a low torque setting increasing it until the b****r comes out. If the bi...

Second, try another HDD in the same slot. This is a good test of the port's function. I presume it is not recognised by the bios.

Re: Move boot drive from T440s to X270??

I think you will be lucky and it will boot albeit slowly the first time. If not then no harm will be done as you can just put it back where it was. You might have trouble with activation . Just in case - a disk image would be a sensible precaution. I regularly put a T60 SSD in a T530 and it boots up...

Re: Partition alignment tool for SSD in old ThinkPads?

I used gparted-live-0.13.1-2 to realign partitions on T23s running XP if they showed they needed it when I checked the partition starting offset in msinfo32. But it was a pain because it was so slow. So I usually created the partitions using aomei partition assistant to check and realign or just cre...

Re: I think the GPU is reading artificially high and is causing TPFC to run the fan constantly.

Yes thats the best idea to tweak the sensor offset for the graphics try 5 or 10 degrees to begin with to see if that will kill the continual fan, if not then take it up in stages as high as you dare without cooking the GPU. Assuming it is set to 0 at the moment. The CPU sensor will not be affected b...

Have you got a Linux live CD or similar to boot it from or make a win2usb from a win10 iso to see if it will boot up at all as a starting point.

If you post your MTM someone can sell you a matching 15.4" T61 with either Intel graphics or NVIDIA NVS 140M or the corresponding T61p chip. That way you won't have driver issues when you repeatedly swap your hdd between them. Would that be a problem. If they have different graphics then with both ...

Try removing your internal boot disk and putting your W7 disc in the machine, if it has SATA, and select to boot from it. This will prove if its possible to boot or not.

You wont be able to boot your W7 hdd because it wont have the necessary drivers installed for your newer laptop. Options are to just plug in the hdd after W10 has booted and grab the software if you can from the old disk. You might even be able to run it without installing it, worth a try anyway. Ge...

Its a good idea for those older Thinkpads to format the HDD in the same machine using DOS. That way you know that the bios is happy with the way its formatted.

Not sure if this has been resolved but USB keys can be either mbr or uefi boot and will not boot in the wrong system unless they are created for both types which the windows media tool does now. But in the T5XX set the bios Startup uefi/legacy boot to BOTH and it will boot from either type.

I am on a roll here after having put 2004 on an Acer I upgraded my T520 to 2004 from 1809. Once again it went smoothly and even more surprisingly every thing works.
Having seen the long list from MS of the issues I am very relieved and pleased too that I don't need to roll back.
