Re: My Tesla Model 3 story (very long)

I have been keeping my eye out on any reports of people attempting to hack Teslas. Although I expect to see somebody trying to unlock features they haven't paid for, rather than any real malicious behavior. Yes, OTA updates can be considered a prime attack vector, but the Tesla app that you load int...

Re: My Tesla Model 3 story (very long)

I'm not sure if there's any active attempt to hack the firmware in a Tesla. At least I've not run into it being discussed anywhere yet. My understanding is that the various options that can be added to the car after it has been sold by way of an over-the-air update (Enhanced AutoPilot, Full Self-Dri...

Re: Trying to find a clear value for ThinkPad T23 (Large images)

As somebody who has gone through more than his fair share of T23 systems from eBay (last count was 58 machines), let me chime in with this: 1) Back when I was seriously collecting T23 laptops (about 10 years ago), the cleanest and cheapest SXGA+ systems I bought was for around $80-$90. Some were goo...

Re: My Tesla Model 3 story (very long)

@TonyJZX: The only other non-ICE car I've driven was a loaner BMW i3. Goofy looking, quiet, suicide doors, decent acceleration (nothing compared to the 3) but terrible on range. The one I had included the REx option; a tiny ICE motor in the back that generates electricity. Combined, the battery and ...

Re: My Tesla Model 3 story (very long)

@RBS: AWD ≠ off roading. Or about the same reason why Porsche sells the Carrera 4. Or an Audi S4. Nobody in their right mind would ever consider taking those cars "off road". I originally wanted AWD as it is helpful for traction in the wet (we do occasionally get rain here in CA). It 'snows' about o...

My Tesla Model 3 story (very long)

I've mentioned elsewhere my recent purchase of a Tesla Model 3 . I've decided to start a new thread as further discussion about electric cars or SUVs would be off topic there. By a stretch of my logic, since the car is controlled by many (?) processors, it's more of a computer-on-wheels then a tradi...

Re: Things you don't get into anymore

Sad to say, but Thinkpads have taken a back seat in my life recently. Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been posting here that much in the last several months. I've been spending my time at another forum (heresy!). Relax, it has nothing to do with laptops. I'm still using TPs, having "grad...

Re: unlikely: memtest86+ might have killed Thinkpad T500

I would say that about the only way memtest86+ could "kill" a laptop would be because the temperature of the system board and/or components got too hot. I will concede that running the memory diagnostic can cause the memory, and possibly some of the other subsystems in the laptop, to get warm. Indee...

Re: Color Laser printer suggestions

Sorry for being late to the party... I've had an HP LaserJet 200 Color MFP for a couple of years. Works great. Takes a few seconds to warm up and is a little bit noisy (compared to an inkjet) but it's been fast and reliable. Like you, I had an inkjet (HP Business Inkjet 1100d) but with only occasion...

Re: Data only plan suggestions

If you're stuck with using the AT&T network, then I'd suggest going to their web site or local store to find out what types of plans that they offer. I can tell you about my recent experiences since I use them for cell service and have had four different dedicated hotspots (none AT&T) in the past. I...

Re: Existing T30 HDD/XP-install into "new"/used T30?

Ann, I don't believe that the various models of T30 made over the years changed either the Intel chipset or the video controller on the motherboard. Those two hardware subsystems are the main sources of problems when transferring a hard drive from one model type to another. What you may end up chang...

Re: What ThinkPad has these specs?

All I'm finding on ebay is the 1600x900 version of the T440s. Strange. Maybe you are too restrictive in your search (i.e., setting price point too low). I was able to find a couple of systems using this search string: (thinkpad, lenovo) (t440p,t440s) (fhd,1920) Note that this search also finds the F...

Welcome to thinkpads.com! Re: Ripping my DVD/Blu-Rays to a external Drive

I believe that one of the major problems with trying to connect an external hard drive via the Blu-ray player's USB port is that it may lack the necessary power (i.e., maximum current capability) for the HD. I suggest contacting Sony's technical support, reading your product's manual or posting the ...

Re: Mixing different size of 72-pin EDO SO-DIMM ( Laptop memory RAM ) ?

Mixing memory sizes? You should be able to freely mix-and-match memory module capacity, up to any system/firmware maximum size limitation. I do not recall there being any requirement for "matched sets" in those days. In some cases you may need to use one socket before the other, or in other cases, p...

Sorry for wasting your time. I verified the disk drive and memory in my X31 but still am running into the "load disk 1" problem. If/when you get the retail copy of Windows XP installed, come back here and click on the Drivers link at the top of any page, navigate to the X31 and download what you need.

So I finally found one of my X31 systems and attempted to do a full recovery. Procedure appears to go correctly up until the sixth disk is loaded and a request to reboot the system is executed. As far as I know, you can't get a data plan (mobile hotspot, not smartphone) from anyone that's pay-as-you-use-it. As I mentioned earlier in this thread (2+ years ago) there is Internet-on-the-Go (http://www.internet-go.com/ ) which works similar to TracFone; you buy X GB of data for a fixed cost a...

I've started creating the .ISO files and have run into a slight problem with the second Product Recovery CD. I can think of two options: 1) Obtain an Ultrabase Series 3 https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/migr-76765 Be sure it includes a DVD drive in the Ultrabay. They can be had for about $30 on eBay. 2) Try using a portable (external) DVD drive connected via USB Either case would need the appropri...
