Re: Copy Windows 8 to external hard drive

I installed Windows 8 on my 60g internal hard drive. I then purchased a SDD drive to replace the original. I installed the new drive and reinstalled Windows 8. My problem is my key will not work. The key is for an upgrade. I did upgrade from XP to 8 originally. I can not get back to XP. So, can I c...

Re: Re: X230t mSATA, SATAII or SATA III?

I really hope one of the early buyers can confirm this before I spring for a high end SATA3 mSATA. How would I check that. I'm kind of hoping it is sata3 on the dock since I plan on using the sata port on the dock for an external drive. Just perf test it? Or is there something I can verify in the s...

Re: X230t mSATA, SATAII or SATA III?

Don't forget about the docking station / ultrabase. One SATA channel is routed there for sure. True, but if I were Lenovo, I wouldn't sacrifice one of the two SATA3 channels for what will probably just be an optical drive on the ultrabase for a small percentage of customers that buy it. SATA2 would...

Lot of Mac users seem to swear by it. Any people who used Macs & Thinkpads both and share some insights on how they are different? Mac users swear by Macs, but there's nothing special about a Mac. The MacBook keyboards are mediocre, they just don't know any better. I don't know if you're going to f...

You are welcome. Although i've read the Intel mobile chipsets only support up to to 2 SATA3 connections, the x230(t) has no optical drive so it makes sense that both storage drives would get SATA3 connections.

I know the main hard drive in the x230T is sata III. is the mSATA sata III as well it's still sata II?

Over on another forum it was reported that it is SATA3, per Lenovo sales.

Re: Re: Question about X230 Processor Options

Thanks dxps26! That's what I am thinking - sometimes a bump in price of 50 bucks gives you such a minute performance boost, that you will never notice and it is best to save up this cash and use it on some other upgrade (like SSD) indeed. However, I hope this "virtualization" doesn't have to do wit...

Welcome to the forum! I hope you're not serious about the assessment that "the consensus is that the new keyboard is better". What consensus? Most of the old-time ThinkPad users are downright outraged at the new layout. It sounds like all the people with old thinkpads who have never tried the new o...

Have you already installed Win7? If so, I would imagine Windows Update would find the Intel driver on its own with no prodding. That said, I have an ATI machine, so I can't be sure.

Re: Windows 7 with/without EE back-to-back comparisons

I imagine that many of the tweaks that allow such quick booting on the EE laptops probably have a hardware component. The actual Win7 installations may have nothing to do with it, and hacking a new bios to work with unsupported hardware is dangerous to suicidal. That said, who knows, there may be so...

Re: Windows 7 released to manufacturers

Maybe, but I have found that drivers have not been a problem in any W7 system I have used for a few months now. We have 4 W7 systems in my house, and only 1 had a necessary driver that was not installed automatically (sound driver for a Dell Inspiron). Software may have to be tested against RTM code...

Yes. Im running the RTM build, and it just works. Even the fingerprint reader driver installed automatically, and the built in biometrics made Lenovo's software unnecessary. The only Lenovo software I have installed has been the Power Manager, Active Protection System, and Ultranav driver and utilit...

Yeah, the upgrade version of windows 7 will work on an XP system, but as the above poster stated, it can only do a in place upgrade from Vista. You will need to do a clean install from XP (though that is usually the best way to go anyways).

Re: Coming Soon: Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC

VirtualPC with XP mode runs a little quicker than previous versions of VPC, but its biggest advantage is the shell integration. It does what it says, letting you launch XP apps within W7 in their own windows. It probably is not as fast as VMware, and the integration is nothing like Fusion or Paralle...

I have a 320gb 7200.4, and let me tell you, there is a night and day difference between it and the stock drive. It gets a 5.9 HDD score in W7, and I bought it off the net for quite a bit less that the earlier poster said it could be had for from best buy.

Actually, my Seagate Momentus 7200.3 gets a 5.9 in the experience index. My stock Thinkpad HDD had awful scores in Vista, and I dont expect it would have done any better in Windows 7.

Ive bluescreened twice. Once when trying to download about 20 things at the same time in Firefox, and the second when I tried to use Move media player on Fox's video service. It worked fine after restarting the computer however.

Aside from that, it has generally run fine.
