Re: Dock model / compatibility / naming

The *40-*70 generations and Thinkpad 25 all use the same docks: 40A0, 40A1, 40A2. They are called "Basic/Pro/Ultra Dock ". The newer ones (for *80 series onwards) are called "Basic/Pro/Ultra Docking Station ". Confusing, yes. The information is here: https://support.lenovo.com/lu/uk/solutions/pd014...

Re: T460p and T61 in Docking Stations at 1600x1200 Resolution Setting

For what it's worth I have a T520 and an X220 in 4337 docs here + a PC all plugged in via DVI into CS1784A ATEN KVM snatched at around £70-80 on ebay. All that is plugged via DVI into a 27" 1920x1080 Nec monitor and works like a charm. The keyboards and mice are plugged into a powered USB hub which...

Dock model / compatibility / naming

Seems like Lenovo loves to confuse people with numerous undocumented variants of different models of docks. I've spent hours researching this in the past. Now I'm looking for a newer Thinkpad and apparently they have no less than THREE different things they have called "Ultra Dock". (I wish there wa...

Re: T410 - need GOOD new battery

It's from the T430/T530 generation and up (includes L series and some other ones that use the same battery). You can search around the forum for other features. If you ever plan on getting something from this generation, be aware that the 55+/55++ batteries can be used, but not charged because of n...

Re: T410 - need GOOD new battery

You can also buy 70+ and 70++ batteries that work with the T410. Probably more options for OEM and in box that still work. This turned out to be a great suggestion because I see that not only does Lenovo specifically state that the 70+ and 70++ will work with the T410, they are actually still selli...

I have found the Green Cell brand to be rock solid... https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=green+cell+T410 The two 6 cell packs I bought for my T410 both use Sanyo branded cells (I believe Panasonic owns Sanyo). Thanks for the reccomendation. Unfortunately I don't see any versions equivalent to the origina...

T410 - need GOOD new battery

I've never messed with the 3rd-party/generic batteries on my Thinkpads, always bought the original ones. But I need a replacement 9-cell battery for my T410, and I can't find an OEM one that works. I bought one on ebay listed as "open box" in the original box (manufacture date 2009) that wouldn't ch...

Re: Brand new T410 & Fan Error

Lenovo agreed to replace it. I'm incredibly confused, however: it absolutely would not boot up yesterday, but today it seems to be working fine. Getting the heatsink & fan assembly out wasn't much worse than my old T21. That's interesting to hear. I just replaced the fan assembly on a T410 and while they definitely simplified the process for replacing RAM/keyboard from previous Thinkpads, I found the bezel removal/replacement to be a real P...

Re: T400 and Windows 10: My experience

Initially I was happy with the upgrade, but day by day I've started noticing problems that have led me back to Win7. The biggest frustration was the system overheating (TPFC did not help as much as it does under Win7). I've had overheating issues with the T400 on both Windows 8.1 and 10, I think th...

Do you have power manager and all the lenovo stuff installed? Yes, though there are some newer ones available now. When I setup this machine originally, because it was a fresh Win7 install and not a factory install, some of the Lenovo utilities didn't want to install. (ie System Update wouldn't rec...

Migrate Win7 install from T400 to T410

I've been considering upgrading a T400 to a T410 because it seems to be the last T-Series Thinkpad with an available 16:10 screen and I like the built-in eSATA port, among other things. (and the price :) ) I figure I will have to re-activate Win7 which shouldn't be a big deal with the license I have...

Sleep LED ("moon") blinking during active use?

It surprised the heck out of me lately when I noticed, out of the corner of my eye, the sleep or "moon" LED blinking, sometimes green, sometimes bright yellow - while I was actively using the computer. No other obvious effect I could see was going on concurrently with this, ie any slowdown or attemp...

You need to keep in mind that in North America the term 4G means whatever the each carrier individually wants it to mean for their marketing purposes, so the situation there over 4G technology is quite messy compared to other regions... and its likely to remain so for the forseeable future. I don't think reactivating it should be a problem. If you have to call in, just say you had a hardware failure and had to replace the motherboard. I don't think you understand the problem. The reason this is an issue is that the OEM XP installation on Thinkpads is customized and checks specific cha...

My 2.2 cents worth. The keyboard on Thinkpads has always been one of the most important reasons why I have stuck with them. I've had terrible problems with W8CP just randomly shutting down (actually crashing, it appears) while in the middle of doing something.
