Re: TP 380E can't get past the 161/163 POST codes

yup, it's a new battery, a cr1220 type. I recently revived a different 380E last year so I had to get a battery for that one which I am using for testing purposes. No matter what I try, it always complains about the 161/163 errors even though it seems to save the date and time from when I set it up ...

Re: TP 380E can't get past the 161/163 POST codes

pressing F1 and then powering on still does not goto ezsetup. All 4 units still goto the error codes and then date/time prompt. I guess it's a system board problem now. It's a shame too because they are nice clean units.

TP 380E can't get past the 161/163 POST codes

Just got 3 of the machines, all in nice shape and they all do the same thing, which is POSTing a 161/163 error. I replaced the tiny battery and I still get the same codes. I've set the date and time correctly and even tried pressing and holding F1 at boot time to try to get into ez-setup to initiali...

T40 fan control in Ubuntu 9.04

My T40 has the noisy fan problem and I have a little program in windows to throttle it down or turn it off. I can't seem to find an equivalent app for Linux. I've seen some writeups about some command lines and other suggestions such as installing additional fan control support, but can't anything w...

600E gets I9990305 after BIOS update

I upgraded the BIOS on this 600E I'm getting ready to sell and after it completed ok and I initialized it, it booted to the 'feed-me' screen and then pressing F1 showed I9990305 which means there's nothing to boot from. plugged the drive into a USB adaptor on a desktop and the hard drive looked ok. ...

600 BIOS update without battery works (confirmed)

I finally got my old 600e flashed so it's now installing windows2000. I've read all the various steps people were using, but nothing was working. Here's what I had to do: Go into ezsetup and under setup->network, enable the flash option then exit out. Boot a DOS disk, then switch to the BIOS update ...

Thinkpad 340 POST error

Picked up one in great shape, looks brand new. The hard drive was bad so I replaced it with a 540mb one. The system powered on with a 174/163 error. I set the date and time and now it POSTs with a 174 error. If I cancel out of ezsetup, it will reboot back to the 174 error. If I select OK, the system...

Wanted: Thinkpad 500 and/or 755cdv

I was given a broken TP500 and it's so small! I'd like to get another one so I have something to repair.

Also looking for a 755cdv. If it's missing parts, that's ok, but it needs to be in good cosmetic shape.

I also have various newer models for parts only if interested.

T40 new battery wont charge.

Got a replacement real IBM battery for my T40, but when I put it in, I get a flashing yellow battery icon on the LCD status panel. The battery status wizard shows error and not charging. Could a new unused battery be bad? Anyway to make it working?

TP600e PCMCIA driver install trouble

Thinkpad 600E Just installed v4.52 which runs fine, but I plan to get the PCMCIA working so I can use a NE4000 NIC for networking. 600E random windows 2000 crashing

Just rebuilt a 600E and when it works, it does pretty good. Randomly, I get a BSOD saying the BIOS is reporting something has failed that prevents windows from running any more. I've ruled memory out, and am testing with just the onboard 32meg. I didnt know windows 2000 would run on 32meg! If I cold...

For some strange reason, I did like the feel of the old IBM AT keyboard. You could bang on those keys all you want with no problems. The layout of the keys was intolerable though. The early PS/1 keyboards seemed to be a thinner version of the Model M since they also had noisy keys. Later they went t...

Do laptop batteries require conditioning?

I remember back in the old days of nickel metal hydride batteries, of telling users to fully discharge and recharge their laptop batteries if they were not holding a charge for very long. Supposedly that would increase their life. What about the batteries used nowadays? Is it better to fully dischar...

FWIW, I actually got Win98 se installed and running on this stupid thing. Only problem is the drive is running in compatibility mode so it's very slow. There's no problems with viruses or IDE controller issues. Anyone ever got it working on this model?

Well, the problem is the connectors on the back panel of both the CD and CDR/DVD are different so they do not seem to be interchangeable, yet both are IBM drives. I dont know what to do about this.

I do have to admit there seems to be a fewer amount of clueless drivers in the DC area at least compared to NC. DC drivers will turn right at stoplights if they have any room to do so. Someone has one of these models running OS/2 and it's failed with a 118 post error. I know that's the system board, but is it a correctable error?
Is there a substitute PS/2 system board that can replace the defective one in the 9533?
