middle button scroll bug
i lost my middle-button scroll (X201, touchpad and trackpoint) for a few minutes and was worried. below is my current ultranav tab in the mouse control panel page. note that this works for me - i have trackpoint control and the middle button does the thinkpad scroll. the trackpad does nothing. http:...

Re: worth upgrading?
bump with a question: it looks like an x220 with the i5 can be had on ebay for about tree fiddy from one particular seller, which puts it back in contention, especially as i have been going nuts trying to run cad software on VMWare. will i hate the non-IPS screen? i've heard bad things about them, a...

Re: worth upgrading?
oh well. much as i think it's very cute, i guess i'll have to consider the X13x out of my reach for now. i will consider the X200s but to me it seems like buying a five-year-old model to replace my six-year-old computer doesn't make a lot of sense. i might be able to wangle an x201 for < $300 but i ...

Re: worth upgrading?
yes - i find myself using the tablet features of this computer infrequently enough to make it not worth the extra weight and LV processor. i may also end up running engineering software on this thing (or i may not, i dunno) so a not-crappy processor might be nice. all that said, i do really like the...

worth upgrading?
hi all, i'm still rocking the X61 tablet i bought way back in early 2008. it has been an admirable performer. the fan is rattling and it's driving me nuts so i'm going to replace it today. but having paid like $25 for a new fan, it kind of begs the question if it's worth it anymore. it's quite solid...

Nokia e72. Symbian s60 FP2 (i think) Has everything I need and NOTHING I dont need. Symbian is hugely underrated these days. 3-4 days of battery life with moderate use (15-20 min of talk time/day) is pretty good. This is what I use as well (an E73, nearly identical), and I can consistently get thre...

Re: University (computer eng.: ThinkPad x301 vs HP Folio 13
i can't speak to the HP or the panasonic that another poster mentioned, but thinkpads consistently have excellent linux support. ubuntu will work better out of the box than does windows, with no extra configuration. for what you are doing, i don't think you will need a lot of power, so i wouldn't wo...

Re: radeon video card for X41
You cannot change the graphics card in an X41, it is integrated in the motherboard. That laptop is not suited for playing games. IBM made Business laptops. If you want to game on a laptop, get yourself an Alienware laptop. I wouldn't necessarily jump to that conclusion for all Thinkpads, though I p...

Re: ***T61*** Did I buy a good one?
I don't think a seller with that much positive feedback would risk faking a build date, especially after the question has been explicitly asked. I bought a T61p with FX570m, and nothing about the date was listed in the auction - but it's an 08/08 unit. Most of these sellers are just wholesalers who ...

Re: Inexpensive accomodation in NYC; Jan. 15-Feb. 15?
As far as hotels, I have had good luck directing people towards Hotel 17. Located on 17th Street and 2nd Avenue, a nice quiet street but right in the thick of it. It's a very quiet hotel that usually attracts young tourists from Europe. Bathrooms are shared but clean and I've never seen anyone in th...

Re: T61p - few questions
I couldn't wait until tomorrow - I tore the heatsink out and saw that, based on the grease on the bottom of the heatsink, the GPU was not making full contact - about a third of the square machined into the heatsink, representing the borders of the GPU die, was untouched by grease. Looking at the hea...

Re: T61p - few questions
Well, I've discovered (via Speedfan) that the GPU is running quite hot - it idles at ~67C and will quickly ramp up to 80-90C upon opening a video game, increasing further as the game is played until it shuts down due to overheat at around 100. This sucks and I have tried to solve the problem by repl...

T61p - few questions
Just bought a T61p; got some ?s about the machine. 1. Was the "two DIMMs" issue ever worked out? I want to know if I can use both DIMM slots or if I should buy a single 4GB DIMM, but I don't know if Lenovo ever fixed the problems with random crashes and shutdowns with both RAM slots filled. (it came...

Re: The best Thinkpad for non-design student
what is "perfect" for one user will not be so for the next if i were planning to take it to class, i'd go for an x-series with a low-voltage processor and extended battery. light, long battery life, powerful enough. it may be a moot point now, and you'll probably be happy with what you've bought as ...

Re: switch from XP to Linux - Thinkpad R32
Ubuntu has very good support for ancient tpads; my X24 works almost perfectly out of the box with 9.10. That said, it has its bugaboos, and for me it is wi-fi. I have never been able to connect to wi-fi properly with any of three WLAN PCMCIA cards I have, and it isn't worth the money/effort to try a...

Re: Brag about the "good deals" that you've bought!
I snagged a 16GB Touchpad by buying it the night before (at Walmart, the only place open at 11pm) and the next day returning it and buying it again. I also just bought a T61p for $310 on eBay, 15.4" with FX570m. We'll see how long it takes for the gfx to crap out but it comes with a nine-month warra...

Minor thread zombificaiton. I just bought a T61p on eBay with an FX570M. Listed as working and with a 9-month warranty from the seller, but we all know how those warranties work, so I'm not holding my breath. Is your 'p still rolling with a baked board?
