Re: T400 BIOS chip

I'm still pretty new to this matter, but it seems that
after certain kinds of failed bios upgrades, the T400
can be rescued using a usb flash drive and a working
XP/W7 machine.

Re: So my T60 finally bricked ..

Hi everyone, so I managed to unlock my ssd on a friend's t60. After considering numerous options I'm now leaning towards purchasing a T 4 00. The 500 is just a bit too big and heavy and I think I can get along with 1440x900 just fine. The old (well, not that old) battery of my T60 will sure find a g...

Re: So my T60 finally bricked ..

Hi Tasurinchi, thanks for your reply. you're right, I shouldn't worry about the RAM too much. Most used machines today come with at least 3gigs anyway, which is what I had in the old one. It's a 4:3 14.1" model. About the graphics, I'd honestly say that the occasional flash video is the most gpu int...

So my T60 finally bricked ..

.. hi there, it's been a while since I last entered these forums. No news is good news, I guess  So, after 7,5 years of daily use, my screen went white, and after restarting, there is no chance of bringing it back to life. After pressing the power button, the fan spins for 2 seconds and stops ...

Re: How to connect iPod to ubu 11.10 on X60s?

I'm using a nano 3g (reformatted to fat32) + rhythmbox without problems. I get occasional cover syncing hiccups indeed, but overall, that aspect works well too. I once tried gtkpod, but it was so slow that simply connecting the player froze the entire application for ~2 minutes. But maybe this got f...

Can I simply remove one of the 512 MB chips and add the 2 GB chip for a total of 2.5 GB?
Yes, that'll work fine. I'm using 2GB crucial + 512 MB samsung memory without any problems.
I have the 2GB stick in the lower slot, but it should work either way.

afaik, most of the early t60 adapters only had the 'thinkpad' string.
Been using one of these, that came with a new t60, for 5 years now.

The title says it all.. I want to connect an old laserjet to a t60
and had no luck with any of the usb-to-lpt adapters so far (the printer
works fine on another pc). Could I hook it up using an advanced
mini dock without issues?

Re: Fedora 15 quick feedback

You don't have to manually start empathy to receive and reply to incoming IM's. Right now there is no GUI to initiate new IM conversations in the gnome shell, but this is going to change in the next version. For now, you have to use empathy to initiate new IM conversations. Thanks for this insight....

Thanks for this, forecastfox is pretty nice. I hope I'll also find a solution outside firefox soon (a solution like the old applet would be ideal, or maybe a desktop applet as in kde4). Fedora 15 quick feedback

Just upgraded from F14 on my T60 using the preupgrade method without a hitch. Booting seems a little faster, performance in Firefox 4 a little sluggish.. just typing this message, it uses around 40% CPU. I might give chromium a try soon. I had to re-enable trackpoint scrolling using the xorg.conf.d ...

Re: Battery life in Ubuntu

There's an ongoing development of power-saving features in the radeon/radeonhd drivers. The basic framework was added in 2.6.35, though I failed to use it with that kernel. Use 2.6.36 - or better - the latest stable/rc kernel. See ie. http://www.overclock.net/linux-unix/731469-how-power-saving-rade...

Re: Mepis + T60?

I don't have experience with mepis but on recent kernels, the stock mesa drivers are working very well with my x1300 (I currently have 2.6.35) including 3D. According to distrowatch, mepis 8.5 still has a 2.6.32 kernel where mesa might indeed act a little bumpy. For me, vesa would be no option, the ...

Re: Anyone sucessful with Ubuntu 10.10 on a T42?

With previous versions, one could edit the xorg.conf file and set the AGP mode to 4X. However, in version 10.10, there is no xorg.conf file anymore. I'd suggest manually creating a 'new' xorg.conf including only the relevant parts, overriding the defaults. At least this used to work some releases a...
